"Jordan initially dropped it but had plenty of time. If England could get another wicket now there is significant net run-rate gain to be had."

Hamza run out 1 (Afg 108-9)
Shafiqullah has done Amir Hamza here. The former connects, but straight to the fielder at midwicket, and sets off before stopping, leaving Hamza stranded for Jordan to collect and run him out.
Shafiqullah improvises to find another boundary, this time dropping to one and slanting the face to steer the ball for four off Willey. The bowler manages a big grin from the next ball as Shafaq swings big and ugly and misses. Six off the over. The 19th over is when Moeen teed off for England. Can Shafaq do the same for his side?
Hang on. Don't go sticking the kettle on just yet. Shafiqullah gets stuck in to Stokes with a swipe to send the ball flying over the square-leg boundary for six. England were 98-7 at this stage. But then Moeen did take the penultimate over for 25.

"It was banged in short but he didn't time it and England just gathering round for a drink brought out by Topley who is probably wondering if he will get another game for a while. This is quite an escape because you thought there was no way they could get out of it."
Sami c Root b Stokes 22 (Afg 94-8)
That could be Afghanistan's last hope of victory gone. Sami has played well for 22, which he reached with a booming drive for four off Stokes at the start of the over. But the Durham seamer has the last word with a short ball that Sami swings at and top-edges high for Root to catch.

Josh Withers: How can it even be a debate whether we need associate nations in World Cups? Rarely a no contest and often the best games.
Jordan has bowled well today. His third over goes for just four to push that run-rate up even further.

"England will consider that a bonus but if you are the batting side you will feel aggrieved. It is one for the lawmakers to look at because it was not easy to tell with the shape of the bat whether it was grounded."
Najib run out 14 (Afg 85-6)
A bonus for England. Najibullah Zadran is very unlucky as he is run out by Jordan at the non-striker's end. The bowler collects off his own bowling and throws down the stumps. The diving Najib looks to be back but his bat has hit the turf and bounced ever so slightly off the ground.

Brockerz: I'd just love to sit back, relax and watch the game, yet you insist on keeping me on the edge of the seat!
Ben Stokes has some amends to make. He didn't exactly cover himself in glory with the bat. His first over with the ball is a decent one, going for six and almost containing a run out as Morgan throws down the stumps just after Najibullah Zadran makes his ground with a dive at the non-striker's end. Two-a-ball needed by Afghanistan.

"England have been fielding like desperate men - because they were desperate men at the halfway stage."
Moeen has a very good shout for man of the match today. His innings at the end gave England the chance that the bowlers have seized. This isn't a good over from the spinner, though, as Najibullah Zadran belts him for four then a straight six. The associate nation haven't given up yet.

"There is an element of self-destruction about the way Afghanistan have gone about this, almost as if they were daunted by the prospect of victory."

Paul Vandrill: Afghanistan suffering without the usual charity 40 runs courtesy of Mr Topley.
Afghanistan need something special now. The required run-rate is up to 11.28. All credit to England's bowlers. They have taken some flak after the first two games, but they have turned up in force today.

"The pressure was mounting. He had hit him for six but Rashid has bowled a bit quicker, it wasn't quite middled and went straight to Jordan. Another key wicket and they should be all right now, England."
Nabi c Jordan b Rashid 12 (Afg 64-6)
This was always likely to happen. The pressure continues to mount and the Afghan batsman need to start taking big risks, which Mohammad Nabi does with a huge swipe off Rashid that sends the ball high and straight to Chris Jordan at long-on.
