  1. Thank you and goodbyepublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

That is all for our coverage of the World T20 for today. Sorry we could only bring you eight overs of cricket but mother nature bested us and the four teams.

Tomorrow, Scotland take on Hong Kong in a dead rubber, leaving Afghanistan and Zimbabwe to fight it out for a place in the Super 10s.

    I'll see thee.

  2. Captain's reactionpublished at 17:15 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

Ireland captain Will Porterfield: "It is disappointing. We are out and we knew winner takes all today. It makes the loss to Oman even harder to take.

"We missed some chances but these things happen. We pride ourselves on our standards. But it pales into insignificance when the weather comes."

  3. Captain's reactionpublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza: "It is disappointing when rain comes. But we started really well. Tamim is always important for us. He has been in form. It is a big boost to the team."

"We had a good Asia Cup. And we now have a very important match coming up. Always there is pressure on. It was a professional performance today."

  5. Winner takes allpublished at 16:58 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

Bangladesh have retaken top spot in Group A - on run-rate. With Ireland and the Netherlands (who face each other next in a dead rubber) both eliminated, this group is going down to a winner takes all game between Bangladesh and Oman on Sunday.

  6. Ireland outpublished at 16:54 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

Well, they tried everything they could to get a game on here, but ultimately the rain has won out. Eight overs is the most cricket we are going to get today.

It is a shame that Ireland have gone out in such circumstances but they were always vulnerable after that opening-game defeat to Oman.

  7. Match abandonedpublished at 16:53 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

The umpires have called time, not only on this game but also Ireland's hopes of reaching the next stage of the competition.

  8. Smashing it downpublished at 16:46 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

    Ban 94-2

The umpires are currently chatting with Ireland skipper Will Porterfield. Rod Tucker is under a huge umbrella. Good job as well because it is absolutely smashing it down. I think we're struggling here. Things look very grim for Ireland.

  9. Targetspublished at 16:41 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

    Ban 94-2

Yep, 108 off eight overs for Ireland is there is no more of the Bangladesh innings. And if it is just the minimum five overs they can fit in, Ireland will need 72.

They are targets you might fancy getting if it was off the last five overs of an innings, but going in cold and hitting from the off is a different thing altogether.

  10. State of playpublished at 16:35 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

    Ban 94-2

The word on the street is that if Bangladesh do not get any more of their innings because of the rain (which looks likely as we still have set-in rain and thunder) then Ireland will be chasing 108 in eight overs. Mr Duckworth and Mr Lewis can be cruel.

  12. Chance to regrouppublished at 16:23 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

    Ban 94-2

Ireland ended that eight-over stint on the field well, but it was punishing for them. Tamim hit four sixes in his innings of 47 to propel Bangladesh forward. However, the Irish now have chance to regroup as the rain falls.

  13. rain stops play

Rain stops playpublished at 16:20 Greenwich Mean Time 11 March 2016

    Ban 94-2

Almost as if someone up there was displeased by Tamim's dismissal, a huge bolt of lightning streaks across the sky. The rain then comes pouring down and the players retreat.

  14. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 8 overs

    Tamim c Porterfield b Dockrell 47 (Ban 94-2)

That is a key wicket for Ireland. Dockrell is wiped for six by Tamim but gets his revenge by drawing a false stroke that chips the ball to Will Porterfield at midwicket.

  15. Ban 84-1published at 7 overs

McBrine continues and concedes four leg byes with a first ball that almost clips leg stump. To be fair, the spinners are getting some turn here. Bangladesh are on top, though, which Shabbir emphasizes with a huuuuuuge six into the stands. This is getting ugly for Ireland.

  16. Ban 71-1 (Run-rate 11.83)published at 6 overs

How costly is that missed stumping going to be for Ireland? Dockrell ends his over well, but it could have been so much better.

  17. Missed stumpingpublished at 5.2 overs

    Ban 67-1

Oh dear, Ireland. They have a golden chance to remove the brilliant Tamim as he dances down and misses a spinning delivery from new bowler George Dockrell but Niall O'Brien spills the ball and allows Tamim to get back.

  18. Ban 63-1published at 5 overs

Shabbir Rahman is the new man. He starts with a reverse sweep to get a single. Cocky.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 4.4 overs

    Soumya st N O'Brien b McBrine 20 (61-1)

And there is the first wicket. Soumya dances down, eyeing another straight maximum, but misses to allow McBrine to strike. Ireland desperately needed that.

  20. 6 runs

    Ban 58-0published at 4.1 overs

Will Porterfield turns to spin in the form of Andy McBrine. First ball? Tamim hits it straight down the ground for six.
