South Africa are all smiles in the huddle - it's AB de Villiers, rather than Faf du Plessis that is giving the final words. Lots of the Proteas are wearing those baseball caps with a straight peak. In my day, the fashion was to bend them. I'm so uncool.

England's James Milner would probably be Tim Bresnan. Hard worker, can play multiple roles in the side but just not quite good enough at the top level.

"The killer game for South Africa was the England game. If you get 229, you think you're going to win. South Africa will be hugely disappointed to be in this situation. You looked at their line-up before the tournament and they had some really dangerous names."

I cannot claim any credit, it was my son Daniel who who came up with AB de Villiers, Alec Stewart, Ms Dhoni, Brendon McCullum.

One point to Daniel. McCullum is right, but he's wide of the mark with the other three.

The flags are out in Delhi. The players will soon be out for the anthems. In anthem terms, it will be an epic battle. Sri Lanka's is long, South Africa's is in more than one language.

I've just seen that James Milner will captain the England football team against the Netherlands tomorrow night. Who is cricket's James Milner? Robert Croft? Mark Ealham?

My fact of the day? Dinesh Chandimal will become only the fifth man to captain, keep and open the batting in a Twenty20 international. I'll give you a point each for the other four....

Going back further, what about those final wins at The Oval against the all-conquering Aussie sides of the 1990s. Where's Tuffers? Do let me know the ones you've been involved in, or the matches you've travelled to. Did you go to Sydney to see the end of a 5-0 Ashes whitewash?

In honour of this contest, we are going to celebrate sport's greatest dead rubbers. In fact, all of the England men's teams have been involved in some World Cup belters in recent times. Football v Costa Rica, cricket v Afghanistan, rugby union v Uruguay.

Sri Lanka skipper Dinesh Chandimal: "Unfortunately we have injuries from the last game, Angelo Mathews and Dushmantha Chameera are injured. We've played some really good cricket but didn't have any luck in the last two games."

South Africa captain Faf du Plessis: "We're going to have a bowl, it's the first toss I've won in the tournament.

"We chase pretty well so hopefully we can do that tonight. It looks a little green, but hopefully it's just a case of bowling well.

"We have to adapt, we've been a little bit slow in doing that. It's been a tournament of 'almosts' for us, we haven't put together that complete performance. We make three changes - Chris Morris has a little back stiffness."

Angelo Mathews misses out for Sri Lanka after injuring his hamstring in the defeat by England. Dinesh Chandimal skippers in his absence. Dale Steyn returns as one of three South Africa changes.

Faf du Plessis wins the toss for the first time in the tournament and wants to bowl first. I'll be honest, he sounds deflated.

But, my friend, I cannot lie to you. The Super 10 stage of the World Twenty20 is ending on a note lower than a snake's belly.

For South Africa and Sri Lanka, this dead rubber is about as welcome as a turkey sandwich on Boxing Day.
