  1. WI 67-3published at 12 overs

Are we just in a bit of a phony war? The Windies happy to take the singles, England almost happy to let them. This game will almost certainly be decided by the death overs. Will England have enough runs to defend? Will the Windies have enough gas left in the tank? Rate above 11. Once it gets past 12, it's very tricky.

"I would be nervous to go to Ali who is not going to have many variations, he could get lined up quite easily on this good wicket."

  3. WI 62-3 (required rate 10.44)published at 11 overs

England are treading a fine line with the short stuff. Yes, Samuels will hop around if it gets under his armpit, but he likes to cut and anything down the leg side will be called wide. Fifty partnership up off 52 balls. England could do with a wicket. The Windies have got some biffery to come.

Greg: West Indies only bowled 1 wide and 0 no-balls. Crucial.

TC: Hospital, cardiac surgery tomorrow, listening to T20 final, perfect preparation to calm my nerves! In Root we trust!

  5. WI 58-3published at 10.1 overs

Stokes v Samuels. Round one to Samuels. Cut for four.

"West Indies do use up a lot of dot balls and England will be aware of that. If they can just keep enough pressure that might force a mistake."

  7. WI 54-3 (need 102 from 60)published at 10 overs

Rashid, 95 on his back, is spinning a web. Flight, the odd googly, the Windian pair swiping and smiting without getting a great deal of willow on leather. Only singles. Required rate goes above 10. England were 67-3 at this stage.

"Plunkett is bowling with aggression and keeping the West Indies quiet."

  9. WI 50-3published at 9 overs

Still the hulking Plunkett, all stubble and sleeve tattoo. Samuels, more annoying to England than a moth in the bedroom, somehow jams a yorker to long leg for four. It's frustratingly cool from Samuels, who is strutting around like he owns Kolkata. Who are we backing? If the Windies end this innings fewer than eight down, they probably win. England must keep taking wickets.

  10. WI 43-3 (target 156)published at 8 overs

Oooohhh, that's a ripper from Rashid. Ragging, snotting square. Whereas Badree earlier on bowled quickly and with little turn, Rashid is giving it some air. Morgan employs a slip, the Windies look to wait on the back foot. A very iffy Mexican Wave goes round Eden Gardens. I'm not sure the entire crowd understands the concept.

  11. WI 39-3published at 7 overs

Spin, the leggies of Adil Rashid...

  12. WI 39-3published at 7 overs

Plunkett shows his frustration by rattling Samuels' gloves at upwards of 90mph. Ottis Gibson is in the dugout, shaking his head. Samuels is either very cool or an excellent actor. He continues getting outside the line, singles here and there. How big might that be?

"Big moment. Buttler thought he had caught that but those are so tight and sometimes the replays deceive you. It looked like there was contact with the grass."

  14. WI 37-3published at 6.1 overs

That is extraordinary. I've never seen such a long delay for the third umpire to be called. Samuels never left the field and, in fairness, the ball definitely hit the grass as it went into Buttler's mitts. England are absolutely livid.

  16. Third umpirepublished at 6.1 overs

    WI 37-4

You're kidding. This is a very late call to look at the third umpire. Has it carried?

"He had 27 out of 37 so that's clearly a big wicket. He looked dangerous today but got too close to it and it just carried."

    WICKETpublished at 6.1 overs

    Samuels c Buttler b Plunkett 27 (WI 37-4)

Gone! Marlon Samuels is the latest to go, edging Liam Plunkett behind. We said Samuels was trying to stay leg-side of the ball, this time he goes too far and a cut shot ends in the gloves of Jos Buttler...

"This format these days ebbs and flows. It's a terrific game, that over has changed the balance significantly."

  20. WI 37-3 (need 119 from 84)published at 6 overs

Shot. One of the best of the day so far. In the semi-final against India, Samuels looked like a man batting with someone else's arms. Now he's standing tall. Beautiful drive, on the up through the covers. 16 off the over. That'll be the last we see of Jordan for a while. Powerplay over. England were 33-3 at this stage.
