  1. WI 31-3published at 5.3 overs

Samuels is moving. Too short from Jordan, one pull shot and one top edge over the keeper. Back-to-back boundaries. It's a definite plan to bowl short to this pair - England think they don't like it up 'em. Don't overdo it, though.

"These are the powerplay overs but with three wickets down you are wary of playing too many big shots."

  3. WI 21-3 (target 156)published at 5 overs

Pace. Liam Plunkett. Not a smile between them on the West Indies bench. It's like someone has banned daft dancing. Samuels likes to get leg side of the ball. Some would call it backing away. Tense stuff, every ball an event. Crowd humming, bang into this. "20-4" shouts what sounds like an Irish voice. Engrossing stuff. The final this tournament deserves.

"I would definitely keep Willey going because he has got that flicker of swing going."

  5. WI 18-3 (target 156)published at 4 overs

Just cast your mind back to the last time England toured West Indies. Marlon Samuels and his salute to Ben Stokes. I think he was man of the match in the 2012 final, Marlon. A big contest out there right now. Jordan bangs it in, getting Bravo to skip about. On the Root plan, England's bowling coach is former Windies coach Ottis Gibson. I wonder...

PitchedOutsideLeg: Oh England. You have made us hope again. So please don't break our hearts again.

Small Man Peaky: Stokes vs Samuels = Guaranteed fireworks. England giving me hope as they always do. Difference is this team could pull it off.

  7. WI 13-3published at 3 overs

Root's off. He might not bowl again. Chris Jordan's chance.

Andy Sykes: I'm still a cricket purist, but this World T20 in India has been utterly sensational. Pure drama.

Joe: Where's your stupid dance now?

  9. WI 13-3 (Willey 2-0-3-1)published at 3 overs

Just take a minute to let this sink in. England have taken three wickets in the first three overs. Two of them to Joe Root. Who had the idea to give him the ball, anyway? The brains trust in a team meeting, or made up on the hoof when they realised they hadn't got many runs. Dwayne Bravo the new man. The Windies aren't dancing any more. Someone has unplugged the stereo.

"Terrific bowling from Willey. We have seen swing, but it is one thing to see swing, it is another in a World Cup final with 60-odd thousand watching and everything riding on it, to get the line right. England are pumped up. Morgan is trying to keep calm, he has had a good two and a bit overs so far it has to be said."

  11. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 2.3 overs

Simmons lbw Willey 0 (WI 11-3)

It's absolutely amazing. England are totally rampant and West Indies are being blown away. David Willey now, swinging the ball back into Lendl Simmons, who is plumb in front. West Indies have lost three wickets in nine balls and England are in charge of this final.

"If England win this game, and that is a long way from happening at the moment, that has to be construed as a stroke of genius."

  15. WI 10-2 (Root 1-0-9-2)published at 2 overs

The roar in Kolkata when Stokes pouched that catch would have been heard on the moon. Stokes was off on a celebratory lap, with the rest of the England team after him. Lendl Simmons and Marlon Samuels are at the crease - England have history with Samuels. Root, by the way had only bowled one previous over in this tournament, but he used to open the bowling for Yorkshire in T20s. What an over.

"It is quite remarkable, also quite brilliant that Morgan tossed the ball to Root. It seems like the West Indian reaction has been 'how can they put someone like that on' and instead of playing the ball they are playing the bowler."

  18. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.3 overs

    Gayle c Stokes b Root 4 (Eng 5-2)

Joe Root has Chris Gayle! Joe Root has Chris Gayle! England believe! The plan has had unbelievable results. Gayle sliced his first ball for four, then picked out Ben Stokes at long-off. The Windies have been ambushed and we have a game on our hands. Scenes. Just, scenes.

"That was a good catch, it went a long way up and Stokes had to run in a long way. I don't know where this cunning plan came from but don't get over-excited Joe Root."

  20. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 1.1 overs

    Charles c Stokes b Root 1 (WI 1-1)

You're never going to believe this. It's absolutely incredible. Joe Root gets the runs, then opens the bowling and gets a wicket with his very first ball. Johnson Charles can't help himself. He tries to put the ball into orbit, but it only goes straight up and down, into the hands of Ben Stokes. Un. Real.
