  6. Reaction to Taylor's retirementpublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 12 April 2016

    James Taylor forced to retire

Nottinghamshire director of cricket and England selector Mick Newell on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"It's very quiet in the dressing room. We're not playing on time so it's one of the days when you have a lot of time to sit around and it's a lot quieter than it normally is up there. It's a big loss to our dressing room because he's a very highly respected member of our team.

"James is understandably devastated from the cricketing side of it, but is also very grateful it has been spotted. He was told it was very lucky that it was picked up, which helps him to put the cricket into context.

"The operation he will now have at the end of this week will allow him to have a long and healthy life and that's the consolation."

  7. Reaction to Taylor's retirementpublished at 11:33 British Summer Time 12 April 2016

    BBC Sport

Nottinghamshire director of cricket and England selector Mick Newell on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"He's a lovely kid. We've enjoyed his company here - and we will continue to enjoy his company.

"I think he's one of the most influential one-day batsmen in the county game. It's a terrible loss to the county game and a terrible loss for a good kid who works hard, has made the most of every ounce of his talent and it's just a shame it won't be there anymore."

    James Taylor forced to retire

Nottinghamshire director of cricket and England selector Mick Newell on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra:

"He was a very smart and intelligent batsman - the sort of player that wins games for the team.

"Once he got in the England side he grasped the opportunities that were given to him and he would've gone on to play a lot of cricket for England in the future, of that I don't have any doubt."
