  1. Madsen targets a tonpublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Derbyshire 309-6 v Gloucestershire

Wayne Madsen said recently that he wants to play for England after gaining British citizenship last year. At 32, he isn't in his dotage, but you feel if it is going to happen, it will have to be sooner rather than later.

Well, he is certainly starting the summer in the right way, having progressed to 86 not out at Bristol.

    Middlesex 405-7 v Warwickshire

Finally, Middlesex opener Sam Robson's magnificent innings comes to an end. After batting for eight hours and two minutes, facing 345 balls and hitting a six and 30 fours, he falls to off-spinner Jeetan Patel.

  3. Champions turn the screwpublished at 12:37 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Yorkshire 436-6 v Hampshire

Anyone remember what the fastest Championship century was in 2015? I ask because Yorkshire's Liam Plunkett appears hell-bent on setting the standard for everyone to aim at this summer. He's just gone 4-6-4 off Fidel Edwards at Headingley and is 70 not out off 44 balls. Meanwhile at the other end, Jonny Bairstow has the small matter of 173 not out to his credit.

Doesn't look like the White Rose county intend to bat again in this game.

Remember the 1970s film The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother? In an early scene, Gene Wilder, Madeline Kahn and Marty Feldman sing and dance to a song called The Kangaroo Hop. Here's an England cricketer with a 21st century version...

  7. Plunkett in a hurrypublished at 12:20 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Yorkshire 398-6 v Hampshire

Well, Liam Plunkett isn't in the mood to muck about as he begins his innings with a flurry of fours - three of them in the same Sean Ervine over. Maximum batting points haul coming up for the champs.

WICKET Hameed (c Read b Ball) 18published at 12:14 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Lancashire 57-3 v Nottinghamshire 242

No sooner have I told you that Notts have taken a wicket at Old Trafford than another comes along three balls later. Jake Ball comes into the attack and his first delivery lifts on teenager Haseeb Hameed who edges to the wicketkeeper. Other people use the expression 'nicked off' - I don't. #keepnickedoffoutofcricketvocabulary

  10. Dawson injury reduces Hants optionspublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Yorkshire 378-6 v Hampshire

BBC Radio Solent's Kevan James at Headingley:

"Yorkshire are still finding runs easy to come by as they build a sizeable first innings total in overcast conditions. Hampshire's bowlers are still slightly off the pace in terms of getting enough balls in the right areas consistently.

"Liam Dawson only bowled three overs yesterday and felt stomach pain when he did. He will bat today but will only bowl if painkillers ease his problem."

  11. Safe handspublished at 12:10 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

There's been a couple of important wickets....Middlesex's John Simpson has gone for 52 at Lord's, caught behind off Rikki Clarke, ending his 107-run partnership with Sam Robson. Meanwhile at Old Trafford, Notts have struck with Harry Gurney removing Lancashire's Luke Procter with the help of a slip catch by Steven Mullaney.

    Leicestershire 69-0 v Glamorgan 348

Leicestershire opted to bring in experience over the winter with Paul Horton, Mark Pettini and Neil Dexter joining the club. And former Lancashire opener Horton is making a solid start to his Foxes career in tandem with Angus Robson, reaching 35 not out with his fifth boundary.

WICKET Rashid (c Wheater b Tomlinson 34)published at 12:02 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

Hampshire strike at Headingley as Adil Rashid edges left-armer James Tomlinson to the keeper. Liam Plunkett strides out to the middle, with Jonny Bairstow closing in on 150.

  14. Lancashire keep Broad at baypublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Lancashire 57-1 v Nottinghamshire 242

James Anderson didn't manage a wicket on the opening day, and England pace bowling partner Stuart Broad hasn't been able to produce an early breakthrough for Notts at Old Trafford.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Dave Bracegirdle at Old Trafford:

"Resolute batting from Lancashire this morning has seen the home side move on to 57-1 after 32 overs.

"Hasseb Hameed went 44 deliveries before adding to his overnight six but has now progressed to 18 not out. Luke Procter has chanced his arm a time or two with uppish drives through the packed off side but is still there on 33."

Simpson plays supporting rolepublished at 11:56 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Middlesex 370-4 v Warwickshire

And there's a half century for John Simpson - it has taken 85 balls - as he picks up his eighth boundary from the bowling of Oliver Hannon-Dalby. His partnership with Robson is into three figures, but the 110 overs are up so Middlesex have four batting points.

  16. 200 runs

SAM ROBSON REACHES DOUBLE CENTURYpublished at 11:48 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Middlesex 358-4 v Warwickshire

And there's the second double ton of the new season (Ben Duckett made one last week in case you've forgotten). Sam Robson reaches the landmark off 311 balls with two runs off Chris Wright. He'll now have his career-best score of 215 not out - made against the same opponents in 2013 - in his sights.

    Derbyshire 264-5 v Gloucestershire

The home side have made a couple of early breakthroughs at Bristol with Neil Broom and Wes Durston back in the dressing room. Broom becomes Liam Norwell's third victim of the game after making 32, while Durston is bowled by David Payne. Dependable Wayne Madsen is still there, though, on 61 not out.

  20. Bairstow still bossing Hantspublished at 11:35 British Summer Time 18 April 2016

    Yorkshire 321-5 v Hampshire

No alarms for defending champions Yorkshire this morning as Jonny Bairstow and Adil Rashid add 49 in the first eight overs against Hampshire at Headingley. Bairstow moves on to 128, with his partner 26 not out, and their sixth-wicket partnership worth 70.
