Alastair Cook says he would have bowled first too. Very sparse crowd at Headingley so far, lots and lots of empty seats.
Angelo Mathews says he's looked up and decided to have a bowl first. This Sri Lanka pace attack caused England problems two years ago, so they get the first go with the conditions. Alex Hales and Nick Compton, time to step up.
Skippers ready...
Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"Absolutely. It's a typical Headingley morning - it's overcast, there's moisture in the air and grass on the pitch."
Jonathan Agnew
BBC Test Match Special
"It feels like a bowling morning."
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
"It does feel like one of those days when you wouldn't mind getting the ball in hand."
BBC Weather's Simon King: "After a cloudy start, it’ll get brighter into this afternoon while staying fine and dry with a maximum temperature of 18 degrees. However, rain will approach from the west for around the start of the third session which could bring interruptions. Rain will clear gradually away during the early evening."
... getting excited for play to start and then it rains delaying start of play by an hour!
Tim Jones
Tom Fordyce
Chief sports writer at Headingley
"Cloudy, close and grey at Headingley, quintessentially English conditions which you'd expect to suit England down to the ground. Except this ground in recent years hasn't really suited England at all - they've lost four of their past six Tests here."

Alex Leggate: Invigilating an exam until midday. Would it be inappropriate to listen to @bbctms, external (with headphones!) when it starts?
Is this what you checked, Graham?
#bbccricket
Graham Wilkins: Just asked if I know what the weather will be like and realised I've checked for Headingley but not for where I live.
In case you missed it, we already know the England XI for this match. Jake Ball, the uncapped Notts seamer, is the man missing out from the 12 picked, meaning Steven Finn keeps his place. James Vince, the Hampshire captain, gets his debut at number five.
The skippers will be wandering out for a flick of the coin in a little while. Tricky decision for the winner? The deck looks a little green and there are clouds overhead. They might burn off, mind. They always say look up, not down at Headingley. Bat first and hope to get through the first hour, or stick them in and load the canons?

Jarleth Eaton: Summer has arrived. First day of the first Test of the summer. Means that @bbctms, external is back in my life! Yes!
Paul Hawkins: HELLO SUMMER (even though it may not look like it).

My favourite thing about the first Test of the summer is...

So, settle in. If you're at the back of double maths, take the odd sneaky peek at your phone. If you're in the office, minimise this page on your desktop and open up when the boss isn't looking. If you're out and about, keep bang up to date on the BBC app.
It's like being reunited with an old friend, isn't it?
Yep, England v Sri Lanka in Leeds, with enough stories and subplots to make Inception seem straightforward.
Questions over the England batting line-up, Alastair Cook on the verge of the 10,000 club, the Super Series, and the small matter of revenge over a heartbreaking defeat by the same opponents at the same venue two years ago.
It should be a good un.
