That's an outstanding tweet. I think we'd all like to know Nicola Sturgeon's view on England's spin bowlers. Is this a matter for the Scottish Parliament? We're into the last over before lunch...

How about playing two spinners? Surely they'd be Better Together...

  3. Eng 241-8published at 12:57

Steven Finn has obviously been told he can play some shots now Bairstow has three figures, looking for a rather ambitious sweep against Herath. Speaking of Bairstow's century...

Yep, I told you I'm an awful umpire. Missing leg stump by some distance. Play on.

I've given this out, but I'm a pretty awful umpire. Herath to Bairstow, trying to work on the leg side. Sri Lanka think long, then ask for another look...

"Jonny Bairstow is the seventh Yorkshireman to score a Test century at Headingley."

  8. Eng 239-8 (Bairstow 103, Finn 0)published at 12:52

Bairstow got a huge hug from Steven Finn, who was probably relieved to have got the England keeper to three figures. There were songs from the crowd and a smile wider than the Pennines from Bairstow. 145 balls, 10 fours and a six. Jonny B is the form player in this England side right now. Jos who?

"It's been a tremendous innings. He's controlled, he's still at the crease, his bat looks so wide. None of his strokes look high-risk. He's in tremendous form, he's averaging over 70 in first-class cricket in the last two years."

    Eng 236-8

Jonny Bairstow! A century at Headingley, his first on home soil, on his home ground of Headingley. It's a complete bonus, with a drive into the covers fielded by Kaushal Silva, who throws at the non-striker's end and gives away two overthrows. Leeds rises, Bairstow pumps both hands into the air, removes his helmet and looks to the sky. Lovely moment.

  11. Eng 234-8 (Bairstow 98, Finn 0)published at 12:47

On yes, the Watford Wall gets big cheers for a humble defensive prod. Another catcher comes in, but Finn's defence gets stronger and the cheers get louder. Over negotiated. Bairstow on 98....

  13. Eng 234-8published at 12:45

England have lost three for nine and Jonny Bairstow must be worrying about being seen to his century. Steven Finn the new man. Bairstow happy to take the single when Herath is bowling. Finn has four balls to face....

    Broad b Chameera 2 (Eng 233-8)

Awful, simply awful. Has someone nailed Stuart Broad's feet to the ground? An expansive drive, then a play and miss, then a led-footed waft that results in an inside edge on to the stumps. Dushmantha Chameera's extra pace has done for two England batsmen - Moeen and Broad - that have a reputation for not liking it up 'em. Both have hung back and perished to the full ball.

Pete Corrigan: Now you have to start questioning Ali's position in the side. Poor batting, average bowler.

Rob Zabrocky: Ali, no longer good enough as a batsman, not a frontline spinner. Why is he picked?

  18. Eng 233-7published at 12:41

It might be worth strapping yourself in for the next few overs. Tail in, new ball due, Bairstow on the verge of a ton and likely to get on with it. Looking again, Moeen's dismissal was limper than wet toilet paper. No feet, possibly expecting a bumper, wafting at a length ball, an inside edge the best he could hope for. Stuart Broad the new man, already swinging like a rusty gate....
