"The small downside of Bairstow's innings is that he's tended to go regularly at balls outside his off stump and look a little loose in that area."

Watton at Stone CC: We need either a bowler or a wicketkeeper as an 11th man for tomorrow. Just north of Hertford.
Daniel Carter: Need an all-rounder, prefeably left-hand bat at number 3 and right-arm spinner to bowl a solid 10 overs Galgate CC.
Eng 209-5
The England players, by the way, are sitting on the Dickie Bird Players' Balcony. So named because the great man stumped up the cash for it. He's also got a clock named after him, though I don't think he paid for that. Shanaka to Bairstow, too short to tempt the keeper into playing. Time for a drink.

Re Jamie at 11:25 - slowest century. Google ‘Chris Tavare’!

Quite curious that we haven't seen the wily left-arm spin of Rangana Herath this morning. I can't help but think he'd be more dangerous than the tennis-ball bouncers currently being sent down by Angelo Mathews. Hales takes a single on the off side, only his fourth run of the day.

Congleton 2nd team 2 players short, away at Aston. Could do with a gun number 3 and a 90mph plus bowler to bowl 2nd change. Nobody puts Yorkie Bill in the corner #HometimeHero

Happy to help out by being 11th man anywhere tomorrow. I need a reciprocal arrangement though - someone to paint the lounge ceiling on Sunday, TMS & brews will be provided.
Tim in South Cheshire
It's the Aston in Nantwich, Tim! You can make it. We may need to find you someone who can paint your ceiling, though...
Has the live text page turned into a version of cricket speed dating? I really feel like we're providing a valuable player-finding service. Shanaka, angled run, whippy action, probes the area around Bairstow's off stump with a hint of awayswing. Bairstow, the red hair and beard that could see him part of a production of Annie, is happy to leave alone.

In response to Jack Shipton looking for a first-change bowler to play in Burnham, Essex. I live in Mayland (15 minutes away), not a left arm spin bowler but can get 'em down there, game I was meant to be playing in has been cancelled.

Angelo Mathews decides that if you want a job doing, you'd better do it yourself. Very lively applause for the England 200, aided by the inflatable bangers made popular at the King Power Stadium and the clappy hands of Nick Compton, now alone and smiling. Maybe he got some assurances from Farbrace.

Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
"The ball has just started to do a bit in the middle. I don't know whether it's off the seam, or whether it's a bit of swing under the grey clouds, but I've been surprised at the number of false shots."
Dasun Shanaka, yesterday's debuting destroyer, is in to the attack to bowl his medium pace. Nothing more than wobblers in the high-70s, but ideal for these grey conditions where the ball threatens to move in the air. Indeed, Bairstow gets a leading edge when he tries to work on the leg side, but there's barely a catcher in his post code.

I've just been looking again at that Pradeep drop from Bairstow. It wasn't a great shot. No feet, with the ball maybe getting stuck in the pitch. The poorness of the shot was definitely outdone by the attempt at the catch, mind.
Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"I'm not sure if Bairstow has cemented his place at keeper-batsman, but as a batsman, definitely. Along with Alastair Cook and Joe Root, he 's among the top three batsmen in the country at the moment."
You'll have noticed that Bairstow has now overtaken Hales. The opener was on 43 when the number seven made his way to the crease. With his movement, busyness and inability to keep still, Bairstow must be a nightmare on a long car journey. On the England balcony, Nick Compton is deep in conversation with Paul Farbrace. "They won't drop me, will they?"

Sid Keyte: This is the match Jonny Bairstow will cement his England Test slot for the next decade.
Rachel T: Jonny Bairstow is obviously going for the 'It's Friday, it's Crackerjack' approach.
Bairstow seems slightly more circumspect after that life, watching as Eranga gently shapes a couple harmlessly past the off stump. Overhead, what looks like a military helicopter chugs past, the sort with a double propeller. When Eranga serves up a long hop, Bairstow waits no longer and cuts for four, beating the dive of the man at deep point.
Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"It didn't come quite as hard as Pradeep anticipated - Bairstow really didn't middle it at all. Could that be costly?"
