Maiden over from Anderson. Probing.
Almost a run-out off the second ball! Short from James Anderson, the left-handed Dimuth Karunaratne fends it off and sets off for a single to backward square-leg. Kaushal Silva isn't interested and sends his partner back, who just about makes his ground via a scramble. Phew.
Sri Lanka ready to start their innings. Here we go...

Imogen: Jonny Bairstow? More like Jonny BairstWOW ;) I apologise...
Simon Mann

"This feels a competitive-enough total given England's bowling attack and the lack of batting the Sri Lankans have had during the warm-ups."

Alex Leggate: England will be disappointed to have been bowled out just short of a third batting bonus point...
A reminder of Jonny Bairstow's brilliant innings.

"It's all there for Sri Lanka to get to that 298 and beyond. If they can, they could really pose problems in the third innings. Angelo Mathews got a tremendous hundred here two years ago. England have a habit of not bowling well here."
Jonathan Agnew

"Sri Lanka have got to knuckle down because conditions aren't easy."

Ed Quantrill: Finn is currently the 3rd highest run scorer in the series.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
"I think it's a decent score. We've seen the ball move around and a bit of bounce. You'd expect the England bowlers to get a bit out of this surface. But, if England are honest, they should be getting more runs against this attack on this surface."
Finn st Chandimal b Herath 17 (Eng 298 all out)
Strictly-style sashay down the track, misses by a mile, stumper does his job. Competitive total in these conditions against this team?
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
"You can see that Jonny Bairstow believes he belongs at England level now. He's going to be some player for England at number seven, when the balls's softer and the bowlers are tired."

Time for an old-fashioned tale-end thrash - Finn with four flicked off his pads, another short one pulled away with relish for four more. Delight in a crowd still mourning Bairstow's demise.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
"A wonderful innings. He's played so well. It's the first time he's tried to hit the seamers over the top - he was eyeing up that Rugby Stand. A bit of extra bounce and it hits the top of the bat. They had been playing so well that they hadn't required to play that shot."
Bairstow c Pradeep b Chameera 140 (Eng 289-9)
Goes for the big heave-ho back over the bowler's head, touch of extra bounce, onto the splice, down mid-off's throat.
Bairstow to 140 off 181 balls, Finn having survived 39 balls for his eight. Going along at five an over in this session, this pair.
Michael Vaughan
Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special
"There's real frustration for Sri Lanka. They had such a good second hour when they picked up the wickets. Bairstow has not been expansive, he's just played the way that he does."
