Tony Moulds: Shame Compton didn't hang around. He would be in the 40's by now.
Mr H: Cunning plan: bat as long as possible so that Cook can get to 10,000 on Thursday morning at Lord's.
Jon Dunn: Clueless cricket from Sri Lanka since lunch. Geoffrey must be pulling the remainder of his hair out.
Pradeep, who has been the best of Sri Lanka's bowlers, manages to tie Moeen down with a maiden.
Graeme Swann
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
"He's led a charmed life after being dropped this morning. Now he's showing his true class and pulverising these poor Sri Lankan bowlers."
Andrew Samson
BBC Test Match Special statistician
"This is the fifth score of 150 or more by a number seven batsman for England.

Like a lion who has just come across a herd of old, lame wildebeest, Moeen Ali knows this is the best chance he'll get to feast in a long time. He's cashing in on Sri Lanka's flagging attack, brutalising Lakmal into the stands at midwicket to bring up his 150. Batted.
England 486-9 (129 overs, won toss)

Sri Lanka's openers will be starting to think about batting on this now, with England's increasingly monolithic target a speck in the distance. Dimuth Karunaratne hasn't passed 50 in his last five innings, Kaushal Silva hasn't got there in his last eight. Hmmm. Let's have a drink, shall we? Make Kaushal's a stiff one...
Geoffrey Boycott
Ex-England batsman on BBC Test Match Special
"This is soul-destroying, I feel for the bowlers. The captain spreading the field so deep is not good for the bowlers - they're just running up like cannon fodder."
Fetch that! Moeen breaks the shackles by front-foot pulling Lakmal over mid-wicket for a one-bounce four. England are having fun here, Sri Lanka are...not.
It's a day to remember for left-arm spinner Rangana Herath - I'm sure he'll want to watch this one again.
The England juggernaut has slowed a little here. Pradeep manages to quieten Moeen with a maiden.

"Anderson rather likes that shot, he unveils it every now and again. It's not a fluke. We were wondering this morning if England could get to 400, but can they get to 500 now?"
The Burnley Lara! What a shot this is from Jimmy Anderson, he gives himself a couple of sighters against Herath and then gets down on one knee and unveils a glorious reverse-sweep for four. Outstanding.

BBC Test Match Special
"It's Herath's 300th Test wicket, finally the Sri Lankans cling on to a catch. It took some getting, this is his 29th over."
Andrew Samson adds: "Herath is the third Sri Lankan and 30th overall to reach 300 Test wickets - and he also has more first-class wickets than anyone else still playing."
Finn c & b Herath 10 (Eng 472-9)
Finally Sri Lanka hold a catch, and finally Rangana Herath has his 300th Test wicket. Steven Finn gets a bit too cocky and skies one up in the air and it's a straightforward pouch for the bowler. A lovely moment for the bowler, though in the circumstances it could hardly have felt more low-key.
Lakmal replaces Eranga, who has been about as incisive as blancmange. Finn pulls him through midwicket for four. Misery, upon misery, upon misery for Sri Lanka.

Rob Zabrocky: This is the Moeen Ali we want to see more often. Batting as an art form.
Francis Edwards: Moeen Ali has made more runs in this innings than Stokes has since his 258. No doubt who should be batting higher up!
Humpty alert! Moeen pastes Herath over the top for a straight six, then clouts him through midwicket for four more. It's all going horribly wrong for Sri Lanka.
