"It was a dive to his left, reaching up. I tell you why he's dropped this, it's because he's got those stupid fielding pads on. His movement was restricted, you couldn't get a postage stamp under that jump."

    SL 43-1

Kusal Mendis has got a life here. He flicks to mid-wicket, where a leaping Nick Compton can only get the merest fingertip on it. Pretty tough chance, I reckon. Mendis's good luck continues when he gets a streaky inside edge past his stumps.

"At second slip I used to go about six inches in front of Matt Prior. If you both dive for the same ball you don't want to bang your heads."

Mendis has a flash outside off stump but can't get the ball past the diving James Vince at point. There's no stopping that one though, driven beautifully through the covers. This young man has been Sri Lanka's best batsman by far on this tour - have they unearthed another gem?

Anderson, just probing in that fourth-stump channel. Silva and Mendis look like they've resolved to play with more discipline in this game but just how many dangled carrots can they resist? Well, Mendis leaves five deliveries before steering the last one down to third man for three.

Oooh, that's a nervous start from Kaushal Silva after tea, following an away-swinger from Broad and getting an outside edge which goes straight down. And another little hiccup, not withdrawing his bat in time and almost getting an under-edge onto the timbers. Didn't know whether to play that delivery or not, always a sign of a good line from the bowler.

Right, we're ready to go again. Stuart Broad has the ball, Kaushal Silva is on strike...

On the World T20 final: "You're going to have ups and downs. I had an up at Cape Town and a down at Kolkata. You can't dwell on things. It was devastating for a couple of days. I felt for a couple of days like I'd caused it.

"We started poorly, but after that it was up and up. We played in a World Cup final when we weren't expected to get through the group.

"To do that and play in front of so many people is something to look back on and feel proud. At the time, I wasn't feeling that like."

More from Ben Stokes: "We've got all the computers and technology for archives. I'm one for, if I'm struggling, to look back. If there's a specific game I want to watch, even from three years ago, I can call it up."

Ben Stokes on his 258 against South Africa in Cape Town: "I don't think I'll ever play that again. It was a once-in-a-lifetime innings from me.

"I didn't intentionally go out there to play that way, there were just a few balls in my area of scoring.

"After I made a hundred, I took the decision to kick on and take the game forwards. I swear I've only watched it back once."

More from Ben Stokes: "I know it's tough for Durham to compete with the other Test grounds. I hope it's not the last one because the people up north don't get the same opportunity to see international cricket. I would love another opportunity to play a Test on this ground.

More from Ben Stokes on TMS: "I want to be back for the first Test against Pakistan at Lord's. That will depend on my workload, how much I've bowled by then. That's what I'm aiming for.

"I'm not too bad at watching cricket. If I'm not playing for England, I'll watch Durham. I bring the kids to watch."

England all-rounder Ben Stokes on TMS: "This Test was one I was looking forward to, but sometimes injuries happen. It's something I've got to deal with.

"I was meant to have surgeries two or three years ago but, then, the surgeon said he wanted to wait.

"At Leeds, I was throwing the ball at gully and felt it lock. When I warmed-down, it got worse. I knew the next morning that it was quite bad."

And Kusal Mendis, who's looked pretty solid so far, survives the final over before tea. But England have already nipped a wicket out and Sri Lanka remain a long way behind the eight ball in this game.
