    Sri Lanka opener Kaushal Silva, who made 79 not out, on Sky Sports: "That innings at Durham helped us a lot in terms of our confidence. We just had to get into our system that we can do things.

    "When the sun is out it's easier for us and the ball doesn't swing much. But still we have to play really well to score runs - they have a quality attack.

    "The first hour is going to be crucial tomorrow. We have to bat really well and set the tone for the day."

    England's Chris Woakes, who made 66, his maiden Test fifty: "I've always thought I've had ability with the bat - it was just about unlocking that. I see myself as a batsman, rather than a guy who can score a few down the order. I'd be lying if I said the honours board wasn't on my mind today. But it's nice to get a half-century on the board."

    "Jonny has got to catch them. He dropped one at Durham too. As much as we know he and Jos Buttler are not specialist keepers, they've got to catch more of them. There is no great wicketkeeper pushing them, so they're picking batsmen who keep wicket.

    "We have two world-class batters, but the others have huge questions marks. England can't afford a wicketkeeper who can't bat."
