Oh yes, that's delicious from Mendis, perfectly timing a square drive of Woakes that whistles to the boundary.

Ex-England captain on BBC Test Match Special

"The Sri Lankans have played really well - the defence has been good, they've played some lovely strokes and they've shown good awareness of the fields England have set."

  3. SL 150-1 (trail by 266)published at 18:09 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Stuart Broad has bowled with nice rhythm but little reward so far today, and this over is no different. Silva collects four with a sweetly timed punch through the covers. Sri Lanka should be thinking of a first-innings lead here...

Ref! Yellow card! Sorry, getting caught up in the Euros fever. But actually, you could have been forgiven for thinking that was a passage from a football match, Mendis haring to make his ground, Jimmy Anderson sliding in feet first with the ball and almost taking him out, The batsman was safely home.

"That's one of the few plays-and-misses today. Only a handful have gone past the outside edge."

  7. SL 143-1 (Broad 9-1-39-0)published at 17:59 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Silva works Broad into a gap at cover. Broad fires one that rises sharply past the prodding outside edge of Mendis. Hands on head from the bowler.

"Short of a length, a beautiful seam position from Finn. It absolutely flew past Jonny Bairstow. He got a good dive at it but he had no chance."

  9. SL 142-1published at 17:53 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

And another nearly moment! This time it's Finn inducing an inside edge from Silva that flies past Jonny Bairstow. Very harsh to call that a chance, it was swerving away from him. Finn has bowled nicely here, probably his best day of the series with the ball, and would have deserved a second wicket...

  10. SL 137-1 (Silva 64, Mendis 15)published at 17:50 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Ooh, more groans from the slip cordon - men on the drive, Broad bowling down the slope, Mendis squared up and the inevitable edge squeaks between England's two slips. Again.

It has basically taken the Sri Lankans three innings to get acclimatised here (the two innings at Headingley and the first innings in Durham). They put up a very good show in their second innings in Durham and have gone on from there into this Test. They should have played extra warm-up games against counties before the series started.

An MCC member is dozing off in the posh seats, his head nestling on the shoulder of the man next to him. That's one to make friends at the cricket, I guess. It's a maiden from Finn.

  13. SL 133-1published at 17:41 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Stuart Broad is keeping these two on a relatively tight leash - just the one single from his latest over, Silva driving to cover. He's looking very solid today...

Dan Gee: It seems odd that we trust HawkEye to make a decision, but somehow think we know better than it to have the element of doubt.

Martin Kelly: HawkEye should show the error of the path of the ball as a cone - it's only the most probable path from when it hits the pad!!

andy: What goes around comes around DRS was umpires call on Bairstow yesterday and today Woakes denied by the same sword.

  15. SL 132-1published at 17:35 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Mendis is warming to his task here - he unfurls a beautiful flowing cover drive off Finn and is unlucky to see Stuart Broad chase it down just short of the boundary.

  17. SL 128-1published at 17:30 British Summer Time 10 June 2016

Silva almost drags one from outside off stump off the bowling of Broad, and then he gets lucky again, driving with hard hands and getting an edge which flies through gully.

Oooh I say, that's brutal from Kusal Mendis, cutting Steven Finn savagely through point for four. Finn ends up on his haunches looking sad, like a figure skater who has fallen in the Olympic final.

  20. SL 112-1published at 17:17 British Summer Time 10 June 2016
