Drama! David Willey looks to have holed out. Is it a no-ball? It's very, very close...

"I think as a captain you want exactly that - the bowler taking the initiative and putting the field exactly as he wants."

  3. Eng 235-7 (need 52 from 27)published at 45.3 overs

David Willey is swinging like a rusty gate. If he keeps winding up like this he'll pop a shoulder out. Maharoof hides the ball outside the off stump, Willey unable to fetch to the short fence at cow corner. Game slipping from England.

Greg: SL hit 32 boundaries. England only hit 18 with 6 overs left. Unless they really go now they will lose heavily.

  5. Eng 233-7 (target 287)published at 45 overs

Five to go. Plenty of singles of offer for England, but boundaries needed very soon. 54 needed from 30 balls. Nearly 11 an over. Sri Lanka big favourites now.

"I can't believe how dramatically this has changed - England are firmly up against it and Sri Lanka are now favourites. That rate has climbed dramatically. England will be desperate for a couple of boundaries."

  7. Eng 229-7published at 44.3 overs

Have a look at the catch to remove Jos Buttler. Sri Lanka are having a good couple of overs in the field, Maharoof diving at short fine leg to deny Woakes what would have been a boundary.

"The momentum has shifted. You can see by the body language, the game has changed. It's important Woakes doesn't put too much pressure on Willey."

  9. Eng 226-7 (need 61 from 36 balls)published at 44 overs

Willey is swinging hard enough to cause a draft, but not getting any bat on ball. This is a good over from Lakmal, England falling back to the tune of 10 runs an over. That's a big ask without Buttler at the crease and only three wickets in hand. Is that a drop? Willey belts it back at Lakmal, who can't cling on in his follow through.

Si Lomas: Plunkett at 11 could be crucial, scored plenty of runs this year and hits it miles - may bat ahead of Rashid if needed I reckon.

  11. Eng 223-7 (need 64 from 42 balls)published at 43 overs

Buttler and Woakes added 138 in 25 overs. Looking again, Buttler was dragged wide, having to stretch and not quite middling it. That's taking nothing away from Shanaka, who made a very difficult catch look routine. David Willey the new man. Prasanna Seekkuge bowled out with figures of 10-0-43-1.

"We were saying it'll take something special to get Sri Lanka back into the game, and that's what it was. It's not easy with the floodlights but he's jumped full length.

"Buttler's given England a glimmer of hope. Sri Lanka have dragged themselves back into this. It's going to be an interesting finish."

  13. wicket

    Buttler c Shanaka b Prasanna 93 (Eng 220-7)

This time the brilliant catch is taken! It's a huge wicket, Jos Buttler belting leggie Prasanna Seekkuge down the ground. Dasun Shanaka is the man running round from long-on, leaping, grabbing the ball above his head and landing with a tip-toe around the rope. Huge wicket, ending a wonderful knock that Trent Bridge rises to acclaim. The pendulum swings.

  15. dropped catch

    Eng 217-6

This would have been a screamer, a worldie, catch of the century. Seekkuge Prasanna at short cover, Buttler nailing one right of the screws. Dive, both hands to it, out before he hit the ground. On such moments do matches hinge.

This is desperation, surely? Maharoof to Woakes, asking for caught behind. I don't think there's anything on this...

"For the series, I really hope Angelo Mathews is not ruled out. We've seen him play so well in one-day cricket that it'd be a very competitive series if he is fit and firing."

  20. Eng 212-6 (Buttler 90, Woakes 57)published at 41 overs

Seekkuge Prasanna back on, dragging Buttler wide and screaming for caught behind. Nothing on that. Even the good balls are going for singles now. Sri Lanka can't stop the bleeding.
