I arrive with this nugget. To win this match, England are going to have to pull off their highest successful chase since 2008. Once it gets past 218, it would have to be the third best of all time at Lord's. Against Yasir Shah. Broad pads in, faced with the obdurate Shafiq. Getting past that defence is like trying to breach the castle wall.

That was club cricket. Unbelievable. It's genius if you can get any way it. See the batsman coming and fire it over his head. I wonder if that's his attempted doosra.

What in the world? Moeen Ali delivers the world's most loopiest, airy, spin delivery. Rose above everything in front of the wicket including the pitch, Bairstow had to stretch to catch it, even as Sarfraz charged down the pitch before back-tracking. Rightly given as a no ball.

Sarfraz responds with a sweet cover drive for four. Great big stride out, and he leans in to the delivery. Well played.

And on this day of magic and sparkles, here's Stephan Shemilt to wave his keyboard-shaped wand.

Mushtaq Mohammed's 12-year-old grandson, Ibraheem Mohammed, scored his first 50 today in adult cricket for Moseley Cricket Club against Knowle Village. One to watch out for.

The ball not really carrying to wicketkeeper Jonny Bairstow. Is Broad's pace dipping as well? Will have to try and dig out the numbers for that one. Yep, I can see he's around the 80mph, mark which is slightly below his first and second spells. A maiden regardless.

Adam Davies: Was just having a proper tantrum about Moeen bowling instead of Woakes. I'll give Cook that one!

The bearded father figure of Misbah watches on from the Lord's balcony as his team struggle to impose themselves. How things looked different back in the first innings. Younus looked angry with himself, teeth showing and everything, after playing on.

Just when you think Pakistan are getting on top, England strike back again.

That's a poor shot. One of the first things you get taught as a youngster is not to cut the off-spinner. When you think one team is getting hold of the game, there's a gift.

    Younus b Moeen 25 (Pak 129-5)

Got 'im! As Shane Warne would say. And Moeen gets his second wicket by bowling Younus. A fuller delivery, and it's played on by the Pakistan batsman, who was attempting to cut away. I think it took his inside edge and bounced against the stumps.

  11. Pak 125-4published at 16:21 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

"Keep pushing lads", shouts Cook from slip as Broad runs in. At least, I think that's what he said. I'm not the best lip-reader in the world, and it's doubly hard when the subject is chewing gum. Broad pushes out a maiden.

Surely the only suggestion for Voldemort is our own Bob Willis? Not only is there a physical resemblance but they have the same ghostly demeanour and ability to kill in an instant - just ask the Aussies.

Shafiq trying to kick on. He had come in after Younus in the line-up, but has swiftly (relatively) overtaken his older partner. He takes Moeen on and over mid-wicket for four. Full of aggression that shot.

Mike Ball: Woakes is going to be a more important all-rounder to England than Stokes, but what a team we'll have with them both playing.

My colleague Steph spotted a leopard print suit wearing a man earlier today. I've just seen a lady with a very nice leopard print shawl around her. Some wear it better than others, fair to say.

Broad gives away just one in that last over. A misfield at cover allowed the single.

  17. Pak 117-4published at 16:09 British Summer Time 16 July 2016

Moeen continues at the other end. Younus, possibly bored of dancing around, takes an almighty stride out to defend the final ball. Hope his calf muscles are up to the job.

England would have been delighted when tea came at that time. They won't over-attack now. Jake Ball has looked a proper bowler. For an hour and forty of that middle session, it was good a spell of team bowling you could ever wish to see.

Having been brought up in India, I was led to believe that the only way to avoid bad luck was a lemon with two chillies hung on the thing you wanted to protect. New car? Stick it on the number plate. New house, on the front door please. New pair of trousers... you get the idea.

Shafiq, though, takes the boundary approach for avoiding the Nelson. He takes Broad to the third man fence.

Sue: Have we had Kevin Pietersen as Professor Gilderoy Lockhart yet?
