  • Surrey and Hampshire register victories

  • Essex, Sussex & Glamorgan win in Div Two

  1. Mullaney defies Hampshirepublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Hampshire 319 & 393-7 dec v Nottinghamshire 245 v 147-3

With so much happening in other games, the match at Trent Bridge didn't perhaps get as much of my attention as it should in the pre-lunch session. I rectify that now by telling you that Steven Mullaney has moved on to 80 for Notts, but scoring another 321 to win is a very tall order indeed.

  2. Foxes delay declarationpublished at 13:49 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Leicestershire 519 & 212-3 v Northamptonshire 397-7 dec

If Leicestershire want to win this game - which they need to do following Division Two Leaders Essex's victory over Derbyshire - then Mark Cosgrove's decision to carry on batting after lunch at Northampton is a little baffling. They are already 334 ahead and a maximum of 60 overs remain in the day.

  3. Hameed matches Sachinpublished at 13:31 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

I've almost exhausted my stats about Lancashire opener Haseeb Hameed - but do have one more up my sleeve.

Who was the last teenager to score 1,000 Championship runs in a season for EITHER Lancashire or Yorkshire?

The answer - a certain Sachin Tendulkar, who did so for White Rose county in 1992.

Wonder how many more of Sachin's feats Hameed will go on to emulate?

  5. Tense times at Worcesterpublished at 13:12 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Worcestershire 163 & 393 v Glamorgan 280 & 85-2 - lunch

BBC Wales' Nick Webb at New Road:

"Desperately tense stuff at New Road as Glamorgan scored at under two runs an over in cautious pursuit of 277 to win, on what was always going to be an attritional day.

"Jacques Rudolph and Owen Morgan battled through the first hour, putting on 59, before Rudolph drove a looping Brett D'Oliveira delivery to cover.

"Leg-spinner D'Oliveira could be a key figure as Worcestershire bid to stay in Essex's slipstream at the top, but nightwatchman Morgan, who was dropped at slip on 10, has looked determined as Glamorgan hope for only their second Championship win."

WICKET Horton (c Kleinveldt b Zaib 99)published at 13:01 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Leicestershire 519 & 196-2 v Northamptonshire 397-7 dec

Suffice to say that Paul Horton is probably a little testy at the moment after falling one run short of a third Championship ton of the summer. It's a second wicket for spinner Saif Zaib, but Northants are 319 behind and awaiting the declaration from Mark Cosgrove.

  8. Glamorgan skipper goespublished at 12:56 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Worcestershire 163 & 393 v Glamorgan 280 & 74-2

It has been very slow going for Glamorgan at New Road, where they need to score 277 for victory. Jacques Rudolph was caught off spinner Brett D'Oliveira for 25, but Owen Morgan is unbeaten on 35 not out, with Will Bragg as his new partner.

  9. wicket

WICKET Robson (c Newton b Zaib 84)published at 12:54 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

Graham Napier claims the final two wickets to finish with 4-50 and match figures of 8-78 as Division Two leaders Essex secure their fourth victory of the season.

Tom Milnes is caught in the slips for eight and Tony Palladino is lbw in Napier's next over, leaving Charlie MacDonell unbeaten on 35.

Essex now have a 24-point lead over Kent at the top of the table, although Leicestershire are poised to go second if they win or draw at Northampton.

  12. Hameed underlines immense promisepublished at 12:42 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

To put Haseeb Hameed's achievement into perspective, only Percy Holmes (1920) and Ted Lester (1948) - both of Yorkshire - had previously scored two centuries in a Roses match.

Sir Len Hutton couldn't do it. Geoff Boycott couldn't do it. Clive Lloyd couldn't do it. Mike Atherton couldn't do it.

Holmes was in his 30s when he did it, Lester was in his mid-20s - Hameed is only 19 years and 212 days.

You can only take your real or imaginary hat off to the youngster.

HAMEED HITS SECOND ROSES CENTURYpublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 16 August 2016
    Breaking

    Lancashire 494 & 232-3 dec v Yorkshire 360

That is quite some feat by 19-year-old Haseeb Hameed, who flicks the ball to mid-wicket to become the first Lancashire batsman to score a century in each innings of a Roses match, prompting a declaration by Steven Croft with the Red Rose county 366 ahead.

Following on from his 114 in the first-innings, Hameed's second hundred took 124 balls and included 11 fours. he has now scored 1,030 Championship runs this summer at an average of 57.22.

  14. Essex press for victorypublished at 12:27 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Essex 530-9 dec v Derbyshire 165 & 295-8

Division Two leaders Essex are just two wickets away from victory over Derbyshire after Jamie Porter broke a stubborn partnership of 72 between Matt Critchley and Charlie MacDonell. Critchley was the man to go, caught at deep fine leg by Graham Napier for 43. MacDonell has 29, but the home side need another 70 to avoid an innings defeat, after following on during day three.

  15. wicket

WICKET Trott (c Davies b Meaker 9)published at 12:20 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Surrey 252 & 390 v Warwickshire 247 & 57-4

The return to form of Surrey fast bowler Stuart Meaker after only playing three Championship games last summer has been good to see, and he claims a crucial scalp at Edgbaston as Jonathan Trott is caught behind.

Assessing their prospects at the end of the third day's play, Meaker told BBC Radio London: “We definitely owe them one. They out-performed us down at Guildford and we were caught napping a little bit.

“This time the shoe seems to be on the other foot. We have posted a good first innings total and backed it up with a better second innings total.

“They are a good side, so they are not going to just fold. It’s going to be hard work, we can’t go chasing the game. But we are in a real good position."

WICKET Lumb (c McManus b Wheal 17)published at 12:15 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Hampshire 319 & 393-7 dec v Nottinghamshire 245 & 89-3

Hampshire have a breakthrough at Trent Bridge as Michael Lumb gives catching practice to the keeper. These two teams are at the foot of the Division One table - but will Hampshire be celebrating their second win of the summer later today?

  17. Wright thinks positivepublished at 12:11 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

Sussex skipper Luke Wright is optimistic they can still figure in the promotion shake-up following their win over Gloucestershire by an innings and two runs this morning.

He told BBC Sussex: "The balance of the side hasn't been right this season, but having David Wiese, I feel we now have that balance and in the last two games we are batting deeper

'We feel confident if we can put pressure on the sides above us who knows what might happen with two to three games to go."

  18. wicket

WICKET Croft (c Hodd b Bresnan 3)published at 12:06 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Lancashire 494 & 178-3 v Yorkshire 360

Suddenly it's raining wickets at Old Trafford when often, of course, it just rains.

Tim Bresnan strikes for the second time as Lancashire skipper Steven Croft last just five balls, but opener Haseeb Hameed is into the 80s and has passed 1000 runs for the summer - well batted, young man.

  19. Glamorgan in no hurrypublished at 12:04 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Worcestershire 163 & 393 v Glamorgan 280 & 45-1

Glamorgan need to score 277 for victory at New Road and they are going about it in a steady, methodical manner at the moment. Only 29 have come from the first 16 overs this morning, but the important thing for the Welsh county is that overnight pair Jacques Rudolph and Owen Morgan are still together.

  20. wicket

    WICKET Petersen (c & b Rashid 2)published at 12:01 British Summer Time 16 August 2016

    Lancashire 494 & 174-2 v Yorkshire 360

Two in two for the White Rose at Old Trafford as Alviro Petersen gives a return catch to Adil Rashid. The leg-spinner has taken 29 wickets at a cost of 33 runs each this season - is that the kind of form that is worthy of an England Test call-up for the winter?
