  1. Thanks for joining mepublished at 19:55 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

That concludes our coverage of today's County Championship action. We'll be back with day two of these two matches - plus six others starting from scratch - at around 10:45 BST tomorrow.

    I'll see you then!

  2. Close of play at Canterburypublished at 19:49 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

That's us done for the day at Canterbury!

And it's one that belongs to Kent, who skittled Worcestershire for 211 and then successfully saw out 20 overs unscathed to read 55-0 at stumps.

    A job well done.

  3. Three overs to play...published at 19:37 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Kent 51-0 v Worcestershire 211

... And still no scares for Kent, whose steady start has since become a very solid one.

Daniel Bell-Drummond is 30 not out, his partner Sean Dickson unbeaten on 19.

Three overs left of the evening.

  4. Loughborough take it to the wirepublished at 19:12 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

Thea Brookes and Paige Scholfield are leading Loughborough Lightning to the unlikeliest of victories against Lancashire Thunder at Haslegrave.

The pair have put on 59 off 32 balls to leave the hosts needing just 18 to win off 12 balls, having been 88-7 after 12.4 overs.

  5. A steady startpublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Kent 23-0 v Worcestershire 211

The Kent openers have made a slow and steady start to their reply, reaching 23-0 after 10 overs - with Daniel Bell-Drummond accounting for 19 of those runs.

There's still another 10 overs scheduled for this evening, so it looks like we're in for a late one.

  6. Loughborough Lightning struggling in chasepublished at 18:49 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Loughborough Lightning 88-7 (12 overs) v Lancashire Thunder 164-8

    Kalika Mehta
    BBC Sport at Haslegrave

Loughborough Lightning are in trouble against Lancashire Thunder as they look to chase down 165 for a second victory in the Super League.

Young England spinner Sophie Ecclestone's 3-22 has helped reduce the hosts to 88-7, much to the dismay of the 589 fans at Hasglegrave.

Paige Scholfield and Thea Brookes face a tall order if they are somehow going to pull off the most unlikely of victories.

  7. Close of play at Swanseapublished at 18:39 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Glamorgan v Northants 108-4

And that is stumps at St Helen's after a severely rain-affected first day.

Lukas Carey had time to grab three wickets on his first-class debut before Northants loanee Laurie Evans finished unbeaten on 42.

Only 34 overs were possible and the west Wales cricketing public will be hoping for better weather tomorrow.

Back at the Test match - Pakistan dismiss England for 297 on the opening day at Edgbaston.

Gary Ballance was the top scorer with 70 with Moeen Ali adding 63. Sohail Khan finishes with 5-96 and some press-ups to boot as he traps James Anderson leg before.

More reaction here on England's innings.

    Kent v Worcestershire 211

Joe Clarke is the last man to fall for Worcestershire for 69 and the visitors are dismissed for 211.

James Tredwell grabs the final wicket and Matt Coles takes the catch.

Sam Billings finishes with an impressive seven catches and Mitchell Claydon figures of 5-42.

Looks like Sam Northeast's decision to bowl first at the toss was the right one.

    Kent v Worcestershire 211-9

Sam Billings has found himself in some pretty exclusive company with his catching today...

  11. Play resumes at Swanseapublished at 18:11 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Glamorgan v Northants 74-4

They're back under way again at St Helen's after a day of several interruptions.

Just over six overs left to bowl on a curtailed opening day, but one that debutant seamer Lukas Carey has managed to grab three wickets for Glamorgan.

  12. Five-wicket haul for Mitchell Claydonpublished at 18:08 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Kent v Worcestershire 205-9

What a day for both Kent's Mitchell Claydon and Sam Billings at Canterbury.

Claydon picks up a fifth wicket (5-37) of the Worcestershire innings as he dismisses Kyle Abbott, while Sam Billings bags a seventh catch behind the stumps.

Worcestershire have a solitary batting point, but Kent have a full bowling complement.

    Kent v Worcestershire 198-8

Kent break the stubborn eighth-wicket partnership for Worcestershire between Joe Clarke and Ed Barnard.

  14. England lose an eighth wicketpublished at 17:57 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    England 276-8 v Pakistan

    Azhar AliImage source, Reuters

Since I was last able to update you, England have lost a couple more wickets on day one at Edgbaston.

Stuart Broad was the eighth man to go for 13, caught in the slips by Azhar Ali. Earlier, Moeen Ali survived a rather controversial review for a bat-pad catch.

He's still going on 63 and you can read all the reaction to that non-dismissal right here.

  15. Super League: Lancashire hit heady heightspublished at 17:53 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

Loughborough Lightning v Lancashire Thunder 164-8 (20 overs)

    Kalika Mehta
    BBC Sport at Loughborough University

"After a dismal first match, where Lancashire Thunder were bowled out for 83, the visitors to Haslegrave on the university campus have found their rhythm with the bat today and have amassed 164-8 from their 20 overs.

"Captain Amy Satterthwaite made an excellent 52 and West Indian all-rounder Deandra Dottin hit 42 to propel the away side, as the hosts struggled in the field."

  16. Worcestershire rebuildpublished at 17:51 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Kent v Worcestershire 192-7

Worcestershire have safely negotiated the half and hour or so since that postponed tea interval at Canterbury.

Joe Clarke (58 not out) and Ed Barnard (20 not out) have so far added 43 runs for the eighth-wicket.

Kent claimed six Worcestershire wickets in that earlier long afternoon session to reduce the visitors from 101-2 to 177-7.

  17. Rain back again at Swanseapublished at 17:39 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Glamorgan v Northants 73-4

The showers have swept in once more at St Helen's, but the news from my Welsh colleague at the ground is more promising...

  18. Apologies for prolonged silencepublished at 17:38 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

Don't worry, I hadn't taken an extended tea break of my own after that mammoth afternoon session at Canterbury...

The technical gremlins had sadly returned affecting my ability to keep you posted on the latest, but thankfully my BBC local radio colleagues and their commentaries haven't been touched.

A little summary of what's happened in my absence on the way.

  19. 50 runs

50 for Joe Clarkepublished at 16:58 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    Kent v Worcestershire 177-7

They're trying to set a record at Canterbury I think for the longest-ever afternoon session.

But, Joe Clarke's not complaining. He's just reached a much-needed half-century for Worcestershire off 82 balls after Kent had ripped through their middle order.

Have no fear, tea is just around the corner.

  20. Ballance departs for 70published at 16:56 British Summer Time 3 August 2016

    England 224-6 v Pakistan

No sooner had I mentioned Gary Ballance and how well he was batting, Yasir Shah has accounted for him caught behind down the legside to keep Pakistan on top.

Ballance goes for 70 and now local hero Chris Woakes joins fellow West Midlander Moeen Ali in the middle.
