Women's Cricket Blog: Ecclestone needs to put more revs on the ball. Needs to increase her arm speed. Think actually Heather Knight may be the best bowler for England on this pitch but will she bowl herself?

  2. WI 45-0 (target 150)published at 14 overs

Frustration for Ecclestone as Quintyne hoicks her through the covers for four. Every run - particularly the boundaries - are greeted with a cacophony of noise from the horn-wielding local fans. Clearly the local vuvuzela salesman has cleaned up today.

Now she's into the attack, Lydia was asked this earlier on TMS - what is Laura Marsh like as a housemate?

Very good. We've lived together for about four or five years, she's the tidier of us and she's also a very good cook. And she's got a workshop down in the garage where she's made everything from wine racks to coffee tables.

Off-spinner Laura Marsh into the attack from the Sea End. She's quickly through it - and West Indies just add a couple of singles. How can England make the breakthrough?

Indeed - Sunette spoke to BBC World Service's Stumped programme shortly after the Olympics.

  7. WI 38-0published at 12 overs

Matthews slog-sweeps Ecclestone for four - it was probably the first loose delivery from Ecclestone to her fellow teenager.

  8. WI 32-0 (target 150)published at 11 overs

It's still Brunt from the far end - and she keeps Matthews tied up, so England have the back-to-back maiden overs they wanted.

As you'd expect on such a hot day, the end of nearly every over is the cue for substitutes to run on with drinks, towels, caps or just about anything else to keep the fielders (and batters) firing on all cylinders.

Sophie Ecclestone would have taken that at the start of the day on her first ODI appearance, a maiden over first up. Her action is very natural and she doesn't get fazed by too much. She is going to be around for a long time.

  10. WI 32-0published at 10 overs

It's going to be left-arm spinner Sophie Ecclestone, making her ODI debut, from the Pavilion End. It's tidy from the Chester-born spinner, who only turned 17 in May and featured in a couple of Twenty20 internationals against Pakistan in July.

And it's a maiden over for the teenager as Quintyne is becalmed. Just what England wanted.

  11. WI 32-0published at 9 overs

It's still Brunt for now, Quintyne aims a huge swing over mid-on - had she connected, the ball might have landed in the sea - but misses. Just a single from the over.

England could do with a couple of maidens just to settle things down a bit.

Nat Sciver bowls with good control but maybe it was worth having a gamble and opening with a spinner. The other option would have been Laura Marsh.

  14. WI 31-0 (target 150)published at 8 overs

Henry Moeran returns to the TMS commentator's chair after a generous lunch of rice, peas and chicken - and Hayley Matthews is also feasting on the England opening attack, carving Sciver for four through point. With the field up in these early overs, there are a lot of runs to be had as Matthews picks up a couple more through gully.

West Indies are cruising here. Time for spin?

I'm wondering if the outfield has sped up a bit because it's had a lot more sun.

  16. WI 25-0 (Matthews 13, Quintyne 9)published at 7 overs

Brunt is giving it everything, charging in to bowl to Quintyne, who stands firm. The pitch isn't helping the Barnsley firebrand, no assistance for the pace bowlers, and Brunt is frustrated as Quintyne pulls her for four past Alex Hartley at long leg.

On the pitch Katherine Brunt is very passionate but if you speak to her off the pitch it's like talking to a mouse - she has the softest voice ever.

  18. WI 21-0 (target 150)published at 6 overs

Quintyne whips Sciver wide of mid-on for two, while a flashing drive brings a single to third man - and so far in this half of the Great Jamaican Bake-Off, the home side are definitely cooking with gas.

The West Indies batters have not had to do too much, they have just accumulated and picked up the odd boundary to get to the position they're in now.

  20. WI 18-0 (Matthews 13, Quintyne 2)published at 5 overs

The things you find out about cricketers - Hayley Matthews has represented Barbados at javelin, while England's Laura Marsh also throws a mean javelin herself., external Perhaps if the scores are level after 50 overs, a javelin-off could replace a super over or bowl-out?

A more modest over for West Indies - just a single from Quintyne.
