England assistant coach Ali Maiden on TMS: "Pretty good start. That was a big miss, but those opportunities keep coming, and I've got a good record up here [in the commentary box]. The pitch is slightly tacky, there was a lot of rain yesterday and we thought it might swing early on, but it didn't so we went cross-seam pretty early on."

Here's the table - the top four teams qualify automatically for next summer's World Cup in England. If West Indies win today, they will probably join Australia in qualifying.

We say "probably", because the top it would put them out of reach of fifth-placed SA - plus, it has been reported, external that the series India and Pakistan are supposed to play by the end of this month is unlikely to happen for political reasons. Whether or not India forfeit all six points, which Pakistan want, it looks unlikely that they'd be given maximum points (which India would need to catch West Indies) if that series is not played.

Drinks break - WI 49-2published at 17 overs

A bit of a downer for England as the golf cart comes on with refreshments. A good start for the tourists but it should be even better, and The Dangerous Deandra Dottin could make them pay for Beaumont's drop.

Dottin, when she plays that sweep shot, it does go aerial - Beaumont got herself really settled but it's gone straight through her hands, so England will be extremely frustrated as Dottin's a key wicket and they've given her a life.

You can't drop someone like Dottin so early in her innings as you will be punished. I don't want to go on about a dropped catch, but in the last match it was errors which cost England.

  6. dropped catch

Beaumont drops Dottin on 7 - WI 45-2published at 16 overs

    Oh, Tammy.

Laura Marsh comes on for the first sight of spin and she should have the wicket of Dottin in her first over but Tammy Beaumont has shelled the chance.

Beaumont seemed to come in too far from deep square leg, tried to readjust but the ball went over her head as she reached backwards and it slipped through her fingers.

That's a chance you can't afford to spurn.

A local has just told me that the weather is normally dangerous when it comes in from the sea. And it appears to be coming from that direction... But he told me it shouldn't be complete devastation and washout territory - the outfield is pretty good. And it looks pretty murky out there...

  8. WI 41-2published at 15 overs

Nice from Taylor as she cuts to third man for one off Gunn before Dottin times well off her pads for two. England should be the happier of the two sides after 15 overs but there's not much in it.

It's now all about Dottin and Taylor rebuilding to get West Indies going again. One of them needs to bat through for them to get a big score.

  11. WI 38-2published at 14 overs

    Taylor 9, Dottin 4

West indies' best over so far as they accumulate seven off Georgia Elwiss. Dottin and Taylor can both do serious damage.

I was just looking at the clouds - I'm trying to work if there's rain coming in our direction.

Heather Knight said at the toss there was a chance of rain later, and the BBC weather forecast for Kingston agrees...

Dottin piles right into a wide one from Gunn and that's a four to get off the mark. No, this outfield is really slow. Again, what seemed a certain boundary only turns out to be two. It was as though the ball ran across some velcro as it slowed up suddenly.

Deandra Dottin - or The Dangerous Deandra Dottin to give her full name - is in now and Taylor sees off the rest of Elwiss' over. It's a wicket maiden.

Hartley dropped an absolute goober the other day - an absolute skier that came down with snow on it. This chance didn't go nearly as high, but she'd have had plenty of time to think about it. It'll boost the confidence of Hartley, who's probably England's weakest fielder. She's now having to run from fine leg to fine leg!

It was a bit of an unnecessary shot from Matthews - England had dropped long-off out, and she still tried to go over the top. Good catch from Hartley, England are bowling nice and straight and making West Indies do what they don't want to do.

  19. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 11.1 overs

    Matthews c Hartley b Elwiss 22 (WI 29-2)

Matthews tries to repeat the trick of Elwiss' previous over by hitting over the top but she's got her timing wrong and it loops high to Alex Hartley at mid-on who takes the catch.

Elwiss has got rid of her friend and England will be thrilled - Matthews was looking dangerous.

  20. WI 29-1published at 11 overs

Jenny Gunn has lots of moving parts in her bowling action but it all comes together when it matters - a bit like the swing of American golfer Jim Furyk.

That's well wide though and Taylor rocks backs and cuts through the fielding circle. The outfield remains slow though and they are only able to run two.
