"They have improved and realised that if they take on visiting teams on spinning pitches they have a chance."

I'm excited by the potential of Duckett and the way he has played. This isn't a normal Test match but we know he has a lot of bottle and a lot of skill. He has changed the whole tempo of the game.

Simon Herbert: I wonder if Hales is enjoying this knock as much as the rest of us

Tom Girling: 100-0 from 22, better scoring rate than our ODI team pre Morgan's captaincy!

Chris Brown: Dropped catch? What dropped catch? Well played young Duckett

It's been a remarkable partnership. Duckett has really caught the eye. There was barely any celebration when he got his fifty. They were measured - I think England are trying to be more clinical. There's a job to be done, they got themselves into a big hole but this partnership has dug them out quite a lot of it.

  11. Tea - England 100-0published at 23 overs

Cook blocks out the last over before tea. What a turnaround from this morning's session. England dropped four catches in a miserable first two hours but how things can change. After lunch they knocked over the Bangladesh tail and since then Ben Duckett and Alastair Cook have set about chasing down their target. Cook has been his usual self while Duckett has reverse-swept, pulled and driven his way to his first Test match 50. Terrific stuff from the England openers.

Duckett's half century came from 61 balls with six fours and one six. This is only the third time England have had an opening partnership of over 100 in the fourth innings in Asia.

This has been a top innings from Ben Duckett. Again he dabs a sweep fine for four to bring up his half-century. He gets a well done from his captain that very much deserved.

Four more! Mehedi is too short and Duckett pulls him to the boundary once again. That brings up the hundred partnership.

Cook at the other end is learning so much about Duckett. He's probably really excited about what he sees and it'll be the same in the England dressing room.

  15. Eng 92-0published at 21 overs

    England need 181 to win

Less than 10 minutes to go until the tea interval and left-arm spinner Shakib is replaced by another left-armer in Taijul. He dismissed Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Steve Finn in the first innings but no luck so far. A quieter over but England, like Bangladesh this morning are rattling along at over four runs an over.

Richie: Duckett really showing what he can do, now, brilliant to see. Suddenly this looks a lot more achievable, still a long way to go

Andrew:  The house martins must still be around today . . England's just had a "happy hour"

David Wood: This wicket was deteriorating on Day 2 (or was it on Day 1?). Is it a proper Test match pitch?

I'd say yes - it's produced an absorbing Test match at the very least.

  18. Eng 90-0published at 08:31 Greenwich Mean Time 30 October 2016

    Target 273

It hasn't been a Boycott-esque innings from Duckett but so far it is getting the job done in great fashion.

Mehedi hits Cook on the pad, almost a direct repeat of his first innings dismissal, big appeals from the bowler and close fielders but this one is going down the leg-side and Hawkeye confirms it.

Duckett has been mesmerising to watch. To play like this for Northants is one thing but to do it on a turning wicket in this situation is some achievement.
