Shakib has been disappointing so far and he throws one down the leg-side which Cook gets bat on and it races for four. Duckett tries the big reverse sweep again, turning his body fully around, but only gets a toe-end of the bat onto it this time. It dribbles into the off-side for a single. Duckett is three short of a half century.

It was an ambitious shot from Duckett, but it was a very difficult chance for the fielder.

If he were to thrash another 20 or so he will have given England a great chance. He's unorthodox but exciting.

    England 80-0

Mehedi, who has taken 13 wickets in the two matches so far, returns and brings the first appeal for a long time. Mushfiqur is interested with a loud shout from behind the stumps but that looked leg-side. Duckett comes down the pitch, skies the ball high in the air, the deep point fielder comes flying in, full-length dive but he can't grasp the ball in his hands. I feel harsh calling that a drop but it was a chance nonetheless.

What is really fascinating is the contrast between two eras of opening batsmen. Duckett dropped a terrible sittter in the field but has had the courage to come out and play his way.

He played two reverse sweeps early on and they were a statement that he's up for this. And then at the other end is Cook playing the way he always does.

Steady on Victor. England favourites now? What do you reckon?

Four singles from the over keeps the partnership ticking along without any real threat. The runs required are now below 200 for England.

This is an amazing partnership. At what stage do England become favourites again? They are probably about there now.

Alastair Cook isn't letting his young opening partner take all of the limelight. He gets low and sweeps fine for four more. After so many top order troubles, this has been a perfect start from England.

Jez Hillam: My Captain/wicketkeeper once threw his gloves off in disgust at state of bowling. New keeper came in. I was at end of run up!

Six! Shakib returns to the attack and Ben Duckett, England's 22-year-old, comes down the track to a flighted delivery and launches the ball over wide mid-off for a maximum. This really has been good stuff from the Northants man. He's raced into the 40s and is nearing his first Test half century.

I think Duckett against Shakib could be a real test. Shakib gives it more air and Duckett, who is playing expansively, might be tempted by a few.

Shuvagata Hom is back after the drinks break. A good chat on TMS suggesting when Duckett gets past 20 he went through to a 50 plus score all but two times in the County Championship last season. Good signs. Classic Alastair Cook now. Hom is too short and the England captain cuts him in front of square for four. We have seen that shot so many times over the years.

The critics are being too negative about the English players. It’s not easy playing against guys who have been practising on dirt tracks since they were old enough to stand up.

Let’s give them some positive support.

Phil Clarke: Odd that Joe Root didn't get a bowl? Always takes wickets at the right time.

Duckett has looked good, especially with that reverse sweep. There's two ways to play the reverse sweep - either change your hands, or change your entire body - and the way he has played it has removed the risk.

Ben Duckett likes this reverse sweep and with good reason because he's hit Mehedi to the boundary rope again. That brings up the 50 partnership, England's first opening partnership of 50 in six innings. It also brings us to drinks.

Tom Davies: Wise notion of Buttler and Bairstow rotating keeping duties session by session in India. Buttler in for Ballance

Andy White:  Rotating the wicketkeeper, has a test side ever done it before? I also think the batting order needs to be flexible aswell.

I'm not certain this suggestion I have made is actually legal, any cricketing law experts reading? I remember Paul Collingwood stepping in with the gloves for England due to injury a few years back.

Yelps from the crowd - which is still increasing in size - as the ball lobs past Mominul at short leg. Duckett didn't get any bat on it though, straight off the thigh pad. Taijul has been tight with his line so far, just the five runs from his three overs.

It is clouding over in Dhaka, this is great stuff so hopefully the rain will stay away but there is a chance of a thunderstorm later. England are going at four runs an over, a good positive start, making the bowlers think. Two more singles to the total.
