They did the first bit right - they won the toss. But England are under the cosh. Three of the four dismissals have been very poor. England have got to win this session by a good margin to get back into this contest.

Mickey Burke: Well that's a pretty pathetic batting display so far for a side that's full of batting.
I'm delighted that I've managed to get Bonnie Tyler a mention here. I'm looking for more reasons to publish 80s power ballads. Answers on a postcard. The bell has gone, players are their way back out there.

'Senior player', 'gifts wicket', 'terrible shot', 'shakes head as he walks off', are becoming worryingly common. Probably could copy and paste for most wickets this series.

It's been a fine day to be a bowler in Hamilton, where New Zealand are chasing a 2-0 series win over Pakistan.
Thirteen wickets fell on day two of the second Test, with the hosts - 77-2 overnight - dismissed for 271 as Sohail Khan claimed 4-99 and Imran Khan 3-52. Jeet Raval, with 55, was the only Kiwi to make a half-century.
Pakistan's sense of accomplishment was swiftly punctured by the loss of five cheap wickets in reply - three to Tim Southee and two to Neil Wagner (above) - as they slipped to 76-5, trailing by 195.
Thanks, Amy. Morning. I've decided that if England's batting was a power ballad, it would be Total Eclipse of the Heart. Every now and then it falls apart.

Breakfast time for me now. I'll leave you with a very chirpy Stephan Shemlit.

Reading 'live text' in my apartment in Las Piñas City, Metro Manila, Philippines. Ignoring the monsoon rains outside, and praying for an England fightback of monumental proportions!

South Africa have some ground to make up if they are to complete a 3-0 series whitewash over Australia.
Faced with a first-innings deficit of 124, South Africa have lost Dean Elgar to Mitchell Starc in reaching 21-1 shortly after tea on the third day, trailing by 103 in the third Test in Adelaide.
Although Usman Khawaja added only seven to his overnight 138, Australia earlier moved from 307-6 to 383 thanks largely to Starc's 53 from number eight.

Re 25 overs. I too almost had a hernia like Nicky Williams lying in a Borneo hospital when I woke to check the score. Need to make this first innings count.

What a rotten morning for England. You can excuse Hameed, but not the others. They are already up against it in this match.
England won the toss, won the first hour and then decided to gift India wickets from then on. Hameed fell for nine, rapped on the glove by Umesh, but both Cook and Root looked secure before Root played a horrible attempt at a pull to Jayant.
Cook, handed lives on three and 23, was next to go as he edged a cut off Ashwin's first ball through to the keeper, before Moeen rounded things off with a top-edged pull that the man at fine leg gratefully snaffled up. It'd be a tense lunch, you'd think.

Matt Chauhan: I'm frankly fed up with staying up/getting up specifically to watch such inept England batting.
Vic Marks
Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match Special
There are not many demons out there - there has been more assistance for the seamers than the spinners. Root had a brainstorm and completely misjudged the length, then Cook nicked his first ball from Ashwin. Moeen fell for he sucker blow of a bouncer. Three batsmen will be thinking that they gave it away. Hameed was pretty blameless.

Shami takes the last over of the morning, attempting to hustle another batsman out of their wicket. Bairstow looks a little ruffled, playing and missing twice at two crackers that zip off the seam, but he sees out the over. Lunch time.
