Elgar c Dawson b Anderson 6 (SA 18-1)
Dean Elgar had been so watchful this morning, but a lapse in concentration proves costly as he flashes at a full and wide delivery from James Anderson.
Liam Dawson dives brilliantly in the cordon to take a brilliant diving catch and is mobbed by his England team-mates.
That was Anderson's 54th wicket at Trent Bridge. He loves the place.

Another watchful over from South Africa's openers. Heino Kuhn is rapped on the fingers ball a delivery from Broad which spat up off a length.
South Africa's physio is on the field, applying some tape. And possibly a bit of sympathy.
No sooner had Aggers spoken than the lights come on. Nothing wrong with Heino Kuhn's vision, though, as he rocks on to the back foot and cuts James Anderson's final delivery of the over through the covers.
This has been a confident start from South Africa given the conditions.

You can buy most things at the cricket, but I think it's a stretch to ask £2.50 for a pot plant.

It is really quite dark. I am surprised they haven't fired the lights up.
It is borderline at the moment.
No third man in place for England and Stuart Broad's final delivery of the over is played with soft hands by Dean Elgar and crosses the rope.
A few umbrellas go up around the ground - there's a bit of moisture around. A week ago at Lord's the brollies were being used to keep out the sunshine.

With Trent Bridge in use, the Nottinghamshire players have been forced out. At Nottingham Rugby Club (where the media park their cars) are some nets where Alex Hales is having a hit.

Broad and Anderson are on a ground where they have done exceptionally well.
I expect seam to do most of the work.
I wouldn't have minded if Dawson was left out. There are times when cricket teams get too fussy saying 'you can't leave someone out'.
A touch full from James Anderson and Heino Kuhn hits the first boundary of the day. The South African opener gets his head over the ball and punches the ball back down the ground for four.
Excellent judgement from Heino Kuhn who leaves a devilish ball from Stuart Broad that swung and nipped early in Broad's second over.
A delivery later a rare fumble from Ben Stokes allowed Kuhn to get off strike. Stokes grimaces pontificating whether it was a run out opportunity missed.
Broad ends the over with rip snorter to Elgar which cuts the left-hander in two. A half-hearted appeal from the England paceman follows, but there is no edge.

South Africa need to make a statement after last week.
The first session at Trent Bridge is always key the session. They need to put a marker down in the game.
It is going to be really tough up front for South Africa.
3rd over
Dean Elgar and Heino Kuhn both off the mark now. Important for the tourists not to get bogged down in this early period, and try to rotate the strike.

I know nothing about Trent Bridge. It is swinging.
A maiden over first up from Stuart Broad draws a ripple of applause from the Trent Bridge crowd.
Broad on from the Pavilion End, bowling round the wicket, finds the edge of Dean Elgar's bat with his fourth ball. But the South Africa opener plays it with soft hands and the ball doesn't carry to the slip cordon.

James Anderson hits his straps straight away and finds some nice away swing in a testing first over. When to play and when to leave will be key for South Africa's openers in this tricky period.

I am pretty impressed with Faf du Plessis' decision to bat first. It doesn't seem a dead-set swinging day. It seems a bit cold. It is blustery, the wind is blowing from the wrong area.
When the weather is coming over the scoreboard, it is going to swing but it seems to be coming over our heads.
It feels too cold to swing around corners.
