South Africa could have got England out for 240 or 250 but they went on to 350. Now South Africa are five down and the ball is still moving. Psychologically it just does your head in.

    Bavuma 1, Morris 2

Roland-Jones is eager to begin his eighth over, Bavuma is off the mark but a hesitant single nearly results in a run-out. South Africa are like rabbits in headlights at the moment. Morris plays the ball nearly straight to a fielder but sets off anyway, Jennings at mid-wicket nearly had non-striker Bavuma in trouble. Are they trying to run each other out?

A small consolation for the tourists is that they're past 50. They won't like the fact that there are theoretically 32 overs left today, though we expect they'll be off for light before 19:00 BST clocks round.

Sam Ellis: The Oval Test: where county batsmen were made to look ordinary, and where county bowlers emerged as outstanding.

Roland-Jones has made such an impact that you can't see them coming back from this, there are so many runs to make up. It would be a miracle.

    20 overs

Bavuma's still on nought, but has barely faced a ball here - Morris is lucky to survive as he plays an airy waft at Anderson. It's easy for us to say it, but that's not the shot to play when you're five down and your side trails by more than 300... There's little footwork from the makeshift number seven, but somehow he negotiates another maiden over.

And here's how the SA skipper met his end - lbw offering no shot to Anderson.

    Roland-Jones 7-3-20-4

Roland-Jones has three slips and a gully in for the tall, right-handed Morris, who plays sensibly, covering his stumps and showing TRJ a straight bat., though he's beaten by one which flies between bat and pad. Just a leg bye from the over, so it's a maiden.

Toby Roland-Jones took 5.3 overs to get to four Test wickets, the second fastest for England. Bob Appleyard is the fastest, in 4.3 overs, against Pakistan at Trent Bridge in 1954.

It's as much as we can do to keep up with these tumbling South African wickets. Here's the end of De Kock, caught at gully off the irrepressible Toby Roland-Jones:

    Anderson 4-1-9-1

Vernon Philander is number seven on the scorecard but the last we heard, he's in hospital - so Chris Morris is elevated up the order. He's a capable slogger in the IPL, but can he dig in to dig his side out of a big, big hole? It's as much as he can do to see off the over, jabbing a single past gully.

This is absolutely sensational stuff. The Oval is absolutely rocking, cheering Toby Roland-Jones to the crease, erupting when Faf du Plessis is given out. England fans sing Jimmy Anderson's name, then cheer again when the review sends FDP on his way. Raucous stuff in south London.

If we play until seven o'clock they could be following on. If you've got them on the run get them back out there.

Du Plessis lbw b Anderson 1 (SA 47-5)

Gone! Anderson strikes with the first ball of his new spell, an awful decision from the Proteas skipper to shoulder arms, and his side are five down - with a poorly batsman due in next.

That seemed to be a horrible misjudgement.

Du Plessis offers no shot to Anderson, that's got to be lbw, the finger goes up... and Du Plessis's got to review it, just because of the state of the game.

Those of you who didn't know Toby Roland-Jones before today will certainly know him now, he's got four for nowt and put England in a great position.

If they had run three on the previous ball which they should have, then De Kock would not have been out. Just a thought.

    Roland-Jones 6-2-20-4

Temba Bavuma the new batsman, there's a big lbw shout first ball... but England don't get carried away and decide against the review. Bavuma's only a little chap and it hit him above the knee-roll. It'll be interesting to see the ball-tracker... ooh, there was an edge onto his pads. So, if Stokes caught it before it bounced, should he have been given out caught? It's all happening, and it's Toby Roland-Jones with a remarkable debut spell.

Right now, TRJ's batting average is higher than his bowling average in both ODIs and Test cricket. Never mind Stokes, he could be our Jacques Kallis at this rate!
