Toby Roland-Jones leads England off the field, holding the ball aloft as he celebrates a five-wicket haul on debut. Or, as the Aussies would say, on day-boo.

Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match SpecialThat was an excellent delivery to get his fifth, on the angle, it held its line and it was a good catch from Bairstow.

12:13 BST 29 July 2017Bavuma c Bairstow b Roland-Jones 52 (SA 175 all out)
It's all over for South Africa, as Roland-Jones finds a bit of nip off the pitch, the ball holds its line and Bavuma can only give a catch to the keeper. England have a first-innings lead of 178.

Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match SpecialI wonder how well Philander slept in hospital, they normally wake you early in there to check your blood pressure or something. I wonder if he had his own room or did he share? Jacques Kallis had an appendix operation in Pakistan in the 1990s and he says he is still waiting to find a pair of scissors inside himself.

12:12 BST 29 July 2017Fortune favours Philander rather than Roland-Jones as he nicks one between third slip and gully, that's four more. TRJ does find some bounce, though, as Bairstow has to take the next delivery above his head, while Philander swats one over mid-off for a single to reach double figures.

Ex-South Africa captain on BBC Test Match SpecialIt's good to see a little bit of fight from South Africa. Bavuma has been excellent again, technically he has been strong and determined and has shown his team how to bat.

12:10 BST 29 July 2017Bavuma 52, Philander 5
Anderson to bowl, or at least he will when someone behind the bowler's arm in the Pavilion sits down. Philander shows no effect of his illness with a textbook off-drive for four. A single brings Bavuma on strike, and he's back on the defensive.

Ex-England spinner on BBC Test Match SpecialIt's funny that in bowler friendly conditions the bat seems drawn to the ball like a magnet, but Bavuma has left very well outside that off stump and not been drawn.

Toby Roland-Jones back into the attack, I should have said, in place of Moeen Ali as England look to take the final wicket. Bavuma deliberately leaves the last ball, and Philander will face the first ball after drinks.

And that's an eighth Test 50 for Bavuma, jamming his bat down and getting an edge between second slip and gully - just England's luck, it would have gone to where third slip would have been standing.

Kendall: I think you are being harsh saying Stokes dropped Bauvma, not many would have got near that chance.
That's why we used the "dropped catch" graphic but changed the caption from "dropped catch" to "Close!" - reflecting the fact that it was an exceedingly difficult chance, but one he got a hand to.

So, having been off the field nearly all day yesterday, and spent last night in hospital, Vernon Philander - number seven on the scorecard - is out at number 11, although South Africa-based journalist Neil Manthorp has tweeted that he's still "very unwell". Three slips and a gully in, and Philander sees off his first five deliveries.
