Looking at the replay, Joseph appears to give Roy some choice words as well as Bairstow.

That's better from Morgan. Reprieved after the edge, he plays a dreamy cover drive through extra cover for four off Taylor. Is that all it needs for the skipper to get back into decent nick? Next ball is a big stride into a solid defensive prod and a deafening shout of "no". The Merrymen's Feeling Hot Hot Hot plays on the speakers. We really aren't.

If they had an orthodox second or third slip it would have gone straight to him. The last two innings, Morgan has looked like he will edge any ball. He looks like he is lacking a little bit of middle practice.

Yep, looking again, Bairstow was playing a similar nothing stroke to the one that did for Roy. It's infuriating to get out playing a stroke that might have got you a single at best. There might not have been words from Joseph, but certainly a long stare. Eoin Morgan is the new man, in need of a score. Slip and gully. Edge! In the gap. On such moments do fortunes change.

Joseph has given Bairstow some words as he's departed. I don't understand why he needed to that. Joseph shouldn't be so angry at 20 years old. Chill out. The umpire is having some words and rightly so.

Gone! In almost identical fashion to Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow perishes. Trying to cut, or maybe guide the ball to third man, he gets an edge through to Shai Hope. Does Alzarri Joseph give Bairstow a little send-off there? What's that all about?

The Windies have gone to spin yet, which is a strange call when you think that their pacemen have taken a shellacking. In the crowd, spectators are just starting to rug up. My girlfriend always tells me that it's warmer in the south, but I don;t think that applies to day-night ODIs in September. Only two from Cummins' set. A rare quite one.

Are the Windies doing an Arsene Wenger here? "I know you say we should stop doing something, but we'll keep doing it until we prove you wrong." Short again from Joseph, pulled for four by Joe Root. England needed 127 to be ahead after 20 overs with one wicket down. Well ahead.

I'm surprised as to how many of the bowlers today have bowled long-hops. Although, there's no big margin for error on a pitch like this. If you're too full, you're driven for four. If you're too short, you're pulled for four.

Right. Let's go through this again. Pitch. It. Up. Just because you've got a new batsman to bowl at, the plan shouldn't change. Miguel Cummins to Joe Root, a half-track pie served up for Root to pull for four. When the ball is full, Cummins' fielders at least come into the game. One more over needed for us to have a game.

There's a gloomy bank of clouds coming from the west. It looks like DLS will come into play in this match.

The thing with the dismissal is, after Roy played struck the ball so cleanly, he got out fudging around. He'd probably have preferred to get out at least trying to strike the ball. Joe Root is the new man. I suspect he's had a stressful few days.

Jason Roy has put the cat among the pigeons when it comes to England's selection for an opener in ODI cricket.

The hundred goes begging! Jason Roy misses the chance to mark his return to the side with three figures. It's a tame end, a nothing shot, an attempted run to third man only ending in the gloves of the wicketkeeper. He's livid too, blasting at the ground as he leaves. Still, he's laid an excellent platform for England to pull off this chase.

This is very comfortable for England at the moment. West Indies need to make something happen. We've only seen pace from West Indies so far and there is no Bishoo in the team to turn to. It's almost as if they have 356 on the board and they don't know what to do. Usually they're defending a smaller target.

You know those wheels that West Indies were fitting to a tomato? They've come off. A no-ball from Joseph, taken downtown for six by Jason Roy. At least the free-hit only goes for a single.

Mark Whitrod: Morgan has to do the decent thing and drop himself so that Hales and Bairstow can open and Roy can come in at four.

James Boswell: Bairstow and Roy to open the Test batting? This has been excellent and pretty much chanceless.

  19. Eng 116-0published at 17 overs

Why are the Windies still bowling short to Jason Roy? What did Einstein say about doing the same thing but expecting different results? Worse, Cummins' latest attempt is a no-ball, with the free-hit only punished with a single down the ground. I've got reports of rain in Ealing and Maidenhead. I'm not sure either matter to The Oval.
