Andrew Reyes: Jason Roy is taking his chance. No way he can be dropped for the next game.

Matt Tompkins: Southampton solution is easy. Hales at two, Bairstow to four. Everyone down one.

Some proper nattering going on in the England dressing room. Sam Billings and Adil Rashid. Eoin Morgan and Trevor Bayliss. Paul Farbrace and Graham Thorpe. Singles the order of the day from this Joseph over. Remember, this would be England's highest successful chase in an ODI. Time for a drink.

This could be the best six of the series. Roy gave himself a little bit of room and with the free flow of the arms, it was just gorgeous. It's gone absolutely miles. I could watch this all day.

A bit of breaking news - Matt Maynard is to leave his post as Somerset director of cricket. While we're talking county cricket, have you seen our team of the season selector? It's right here. Oh, I say. This is a mighty bit of biffery from Jason Roy, a six over the head of new bowler Miguel Cummins. It's hit the sightscreen so hard that it's done it some damage.

This is bang average from Jason Holder, who hasn't figured out that bowling short to Jason Roy is about as useful as fitting wheels to a tomato. The Windies skipper gets pulled for back-to-back boundaries and only doesn't got for a third because deep square leg has the impunity to get in the way. For the last two days, I've been at the Lancs-Surrey game at Old Trafford. I found out that Jason Roy got rid of one of his bats in a jumble sale.

Jason Roy's game is perfect for The Oval. Driving, on the up, running it down to third man. His home ground is perfect for him.

Ouch. The second one of the day. After Evin Lewis came a cropper by whacking the ball into his own ankle, Jason Roy does the same thing. Thankfully for him the damage is not as severe as Lewis' trip to hospital. If it does rain, England would need to be 114-0 after 20 overs. If they lost a wicket, they would need to reach 126. I'm going to need a DLS printout, otherwise this could get all Shaun Pollock.

Roy shouldn't just give it away from here. Sometimes you need to hold back and try to get 100/150.

This is turning into quite a return for Jason Roy. Back in the side because of Alex Hales' unavailability, he reaches his first ODI half-century in 11 knocks. Eoin Morgan has a big smile on his face. He won't be smiling when he's got to tell one of Roy, Hales or Jonny Bairstow that they aren't opening in Southampton.

How's this for a song for the Barmy Army to sing to the Aussies; "You put your batsmen in, we'll get your batsmen out, in, out, in, out, we'll shake you all about, we'll be shouting Stokesy Woakesy as your walking off, that's what it's all about. Ohhhhh Stokesy Stokesy Stokesy, ohhhh Woakesy Woakesy Woakesy, ohhhh Foakesy Foakesy Foakesy, knees ben, arm stretch, RA RA RA"

Jason Roy isn't always timing it sweetly, but there's a lot of white leather crossing the rope. Alzarri Joseph is the new man, met by a slap to wide long-on, then a pretty dreamy drive back down the ground. A hook for a single takes Roy to the verge of a half-century. A penny for the thoughts of Alex Hales at the moment.

Australia have problems of their own to sort out. They have issues in their middle order as well. We're going over to Australia slightly undecided which is never a good start. It's good to go over with a team in mind.

Jonny Bairstow is quick. Man-running-after-last-bus-home quick. Bond-running-after-the-tube-in-Skyfall quick. A dab to square leg brings two whne Bairstow has no right to get home. Apparently it's raining in Basingstoke. I have no idea what that means to the future prospects of play at The Oval.

Jason Roy committed himself on the front foot and did it beautifully. It was a baseline top-spin forehand down the line.

That might be the last limerick of the day. I may consider some haiku. When he was out of form, Jason Roy was getting starts, then getting out. He has to be careful here, with the off-side packed he tries to work to the on side and almost gets in a pickle. When he keeps it simple, some stand-and-deliver to flat-bat a short ball through mid-off, he picks up four. Extraordinary shot.

I'm told that rain is arriving from the west, but my geography is terrible so I'm not sure what direction that is in relation to The Oval. No slips now, England working the ball and running hard. Nice murmur from the crowd, floodlights taking full effect. Still no brimmer for Bayliss. Eoin Morgan, number four, hasn't got his pads on. If this was club cricket, the top six would have the mums and dads on.

An edge from Roy, but it falls short of Chris Gayle at first slip. He follows up by bunting a Taylor full toss down the ground and cutting square of the wicket for a pair of boundaries. How many does he have to get to be undroppable for the fifth match? The Windies need something to change. It looks like England are batting on a slab of concrete.
