  1. Eng 33-0published at 6 overs

    Roy 21, Bairstow 10

Jonny Bairstow has made a quiet start. A missed ramp off Holder, then a cover drive that goes to the man at cover point. Holder, bandage on his right arm, probes an off-stump line. Roy takes a couple to move to his highest ODI score since March. The umpires have called for jackets. If they stay out there much longer they'll need Santa suits.

Jerome Taylor is hitting the pitch. He's getting the ball talking and getting the nip off it as well. Excellent movement.

Johnny Raincloud? Does he know Billy No-Mates? I'm struggling to get my head around the fact there's a one-dayer being played on 27 September. There's another one on Friday too. It's October on Sunday. It's only five weeks until Halloween. Jerome Taylor, easy action, is met by the walking Roy. Only a single from the over.

Sorry to be Johnny Raincloud ; but I think DLS may make an appearance in this run chase. It started raining in Southampton at 15:55 BST.

    Roy 18, Bairstow 7

It's getting darker, and I don't think that is because the sun is going down. I've heard rumours of rain. Edge from Roy, but there's only one slip so it skips down to third man for a couple. Roy is almost walking towards the ball, with the Windies bowling too short in response. Now Holder has got it full, he's caused the Surrey man a problem.

Jason Roy has started well on his return to the ODI side. A short ball from Taylor is pulled to mid-wicket for four. In other news, Alastair Cook has done his second John Terry in the space of a year. The tweet at the top is Cook donning his whites to celebrate Essex's County Championship. The picture below is him doing the same thing when they won Division Two last year.

Today we've seen a record broken which has stood since the second Test in history: Evin Lewis' 176 is the highest score by a batsman who has retired hurt. The highest was Charles Bannerman's 165, external in 1877.

Jason Holder, the gigantic Windies captain, shares new-ball duties, delivering the ball from the height of a small building. Roy is looking to get on the front foot at every opportunity, but rides the bounce to take four through the leg side. In breaking news, Trevor Bayliss has been spotted not wearing his wide-brimmer sunhat.

John: Is there any point going to Oz now? According to experts and so called fans we’ve lost already. Pathetic support for your team.

David Wood: Crane/Rashid are not understudies to Moeen - different animals. What has Jack Leach done wrong?

The floodlights are on and Taylor is bowling with some gas. There's a touch of shape away from the right-handers, keeping two waiting slips interested. Jason Roy, on his home ground, is away with a drive through the covers for a couple, then pulls off his hips for four. If Roy gets a ton, does Alex Hales get back in for the fifth ODI?

There's a lot of little things that are riding on this game. West Indies are trying to build themselves, Roy and Bairstow trying to make a name for themselves at the top of the order, the players that aren't here and the Ashes. There is just loads going on.

England's runchase is about to get under way. Jason Roy (remember him?) is on strike, with Jonny Bairstow at the other end. Jerome Taylor has the ball.

The difference between the two sides will be the pace element. Australia will have five or six miles per hour on England.

Gary Ballance is a tough character and they know he can do it - four hundreds in his first nine Tests. If he bats at five, it's a last opportunity for him.

Australia would love to see Root at three. It may get to that, but you start with your captain in the position he wants to bat.

One area that is overlooked is the importance of reverse-swing. That is what Wood does - he's brilliant with the older ball.

Everyone in the game can see that Vince can play. I worry about his mindset, I worry about how strong he is mentally.

I don't know how they will handle the Ben Stokes investigation because it's out of their hands and it's a police matter and the wheels can act slowly.

If there are charges brought against him, does that mean that he will have to leave the tour Through the irresponsibility of whatever has happened, it has caused a knock-on effect on the team.
