England did well in 2010-11 was because they sent a string message in the warm-ups. Whatever happens this time they will be without Stokes this time. Strauss is absolutely furious and so he should be.

Whitaker and Strauss were on the back foot. It's just a mess. All concerned with English cricket must be furious to have this landed on them.

That James Whitaker interview was revealing. He said that Vince and Ballance have partly been selected on character and that Mark Wood will travel with the Lions in the hope he could join the main squad.

Afternoon. Stephan Shemilt in the seat for a little while. I arrive with the news that Evin Lewis is off to hospital for an X-ray on that ankle injury.

There are few more painful things in cricket than hitting the ball into your own ankle...

England bowler Chris Woakes on Sky Sports: "It's always a good score to get over 300, but The Oval is good for batting it's hard to stop the runs. They showed how good pitch it is at the end.

"We could have executed a few of our skills a bit better, but that's one-day cricket. It's a good chase and hopefully we can chase them.

"You don't feel extra pressure without the extra bowler, you always expect to bowl your 10 overs."

The pitch is the M25. For England, although they have lots of changes, their batsmen won't face early movement. They will have to go well in the powerplay, then kick on. The issue is if West Indies bowl well. It will be a tough ask.

Holder looks to go big on the final delivery and finds Sam Billings at deep mid-wicket.

Nevertheless, a brilliant batting display from West Indies.

That's an incredible shot. I like how later he moved. He knew Woakes was targeting the off stump, but waited for the last possible moment and flicked his wrists in true West Indian style.

    Holder 76, Powell 17

Talking of fine-hitting, Jason Holder opens the face of his bat to glide a wide, full delivery past backward point for four.

Oh my! Powell shuffles across his stumps and whips a ball from outside the off to over the square-leg boundary for six. Magnificent adjustment, tremendous execution.

That's Chris Woakes done. He's gone for 10-0-71-3
