New Zealand need to understand the pitch will nibble a bit. Taskin and Rubel are quicker than we've seen in the past and they can get the ball to move. Courtney Walsh is the Bangladesh bowling coach and he's impressed with the way the bowlers have developed under his tutelage.

The Kiwis have a very tall attack. It's intriguing how, in hindsight, they went straight into defensive mode against England with the ball and it didn't work.

Now, in a warm-up match before the Champions Trophy in Dublin, Bangladesh beat New Zealand by five wickets.

New Zealand - batting first - made 271-8, with 84 from Tom Latham - who hasn't played in the competition yet - and 63 from Neil Broom.

Bangaldesh, however, chased that total down in 48.2 overs with 65 from both Tamim and Sabbir, with spinner Jeetan Patel taking 2-55.

It'll be an interesting one today...

New Zealand want to get a target before the pitch gets slower and behave in a capricious way. New Zealand will have learned how to bowl on this pitch after watching England on it the other day.

  7. View from the middlepublished at 11:07 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

New Zealand captain Kane Williamson: "It looks like a good surface so hopefully we can get a good score on the board. The pitch deteriorated a little the other day and it is very dry today despite the weather which has been around. It's been an amazing tournament - we've virtually got four quarter-finals now."

Bangladesh captain Mashrafe Mortaza: "We'd like to have bowled anyway. We've brought Taskin in and hopefully he will do something with the ball for us today."

New Zealand are an unbalanced batting side at the moment. They depend so much on Williamson. I can see the logic of batting first, though, even if that goes slightly against the modern grain.

  9. NZ bat firstpublished at 11:05 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

Kane Williamson has called correctly, again, and New Zealand will have a bat first. They're unchanged.

Mashrafe says he wanted a bowl anyway. Two changes - pace bowler Taskin Ahmed is in, as is Mosaddek.

The worst thing, when you don't know about times, is you want to get going. You don't want to get warmed up too early, but the players have been going for ages!

The zing bails are in place which signals that we're definitely in for some cricket. The captains are out in the middle for the toss. It's windy out there - bowl first? Or will New Zealand bat first to avoid batting last on a pitch that they didn't enjoy last time?

  12. We should get a game in...published at 10:53 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

BBC Weather's Jake Cope: "There are a few showers in the Cardiff area first thing this morning and we might see one or two brief early interruptions to the penultimate Group A game. There will be sunny spells between the showers and as the morning goes on, sunshine will begin to dominate and the showers will ease.

"Into this evening we’ll start to see an area of cloud moving in but no more rain today – we should get a result. With light westerly winds and temperatures reaching 19ºC it should be a lovely day in the stands."

It's good news - the toss will take place at 11:00 and the match will take place at 11:30. I don't think we've lost any overs.

For Bangladesh, we've seen Tamim get the runs and for New Zealand we'e seen Williamson. Both players have impact. I think, if Bangladesh can get things to click, if they get runs on the board.

  18. The story so farpublished at 10:39 British Summer Time 9 June 2017

New Zealand were on top of their first group match against Australia before the rain arrived, their pace bowlers reducing Australia to 53-3 after captain Kane Williamson had made a century.

They started their chase of 311 against England well, with Williamson leading the way on 87, before a collapse saw them lose their last seven wickets in a flurry.

Bangladesh, meanwhile, put in a strong batting performance against England, but lacked impetus with the ball.

They struggled against Australia, falling to a super bit of pace bowling from Mitchell Starc, before the rain set it once again.

There's some unusual clarity in that today's winners are likely to go through to the semi-finals IF Australia don't beat England tomorrow.
