  1. Eng 139-3published at 31 overs

Ey up, how has that missed the leg stump? How has it missed the bat? Morgan goes to pull a shortish delivery, it misses everything and ricochets off the wicketkeeper's gloves to short fine leg.

Meanwhile in the Cardiff crowd, three fellas dressed as bananas stick out like a sore thumb amongst a sea of green Pakistan flags.

England need a 50 off 40 balls from Stokes. That could be the difference here. If he can push 270 up to 300, it could be match-winning.

  3. Eng 136-3published at 30 overs

Typical Eoin Morgan. With anyone else you'd say it's risky but the England captain knows exactly what he's doing - as he reverse sweeps it over short third man for four.

The youthfulness of Shadab showing, as the agile youngster dives off his own bowling for a nice piece of fielding.

  5. Eng 130-3published at 29 overs

    Morgan 25, Stokes 2

A bit too eager from the man at short-cover who fields and tries to throw one back to the non-strikers' end in one motion.

That prompts Sarfraz to yell "Easy brother, eaaaasy." It isn't easy for the England batsmen to score off the Pakistan spinners, as Hafeez races through another over.

Jack Allum: Stokes needs to step on it. No-one has shown any aggression thus far. Very defensive innings in the modern game

  7. Eng 129-3published at 28 overs

A fine over from Shadab, conceding two singles and the wicket.

Ben Stokes is the new man in. Saw some action of him in the nets yesterday, he really looks like a man in form. Oozing confidence. I hope I haven't put the mockers on the England all-rounder.

Root didn't want to go - he's clearly not a walker. But once the finger went up, he went so he clearly got a feather on it.

  9. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 27.3 overs

    Root c Sarfraz b Shadab 46 (Eng 128-3)

Root is gone as the leggie strikes. Shadab bowls wide of off, gets a bit of bounce and turn and Root, hanging back in his crease, cuts one to the skipper Sarfraz behind the stumps. Not the best looking shot Root has ever played!

Any particular reason that Joe Root has a long sleeve top and a jumper on, despite it being 25 degrees?!

    A topless Rob in London

  11. Eng 127-2published at 27 overs

Good bowling from Hafeez, he keeps his line nice and tight for a tidy over. Four from it.

So before that Morgan review, there was a slight delay in play as Joe Root is delivered a couple of paracetamols - let's hope it's nothing serious.

It's quite strange to be in the stands when a review is in progress. There's an initial eruption from the crowd, but then complete silence as everyone turns to the big screen and listens to the godly voice that booms around the ground. It's like the final scene from The Truman Show.

  13. Eng 123-2published at 26 overs

A solid end to the over for England. Over pitched from Shadab and Morgan makes some space and drills it through the covers for four. Well struck.

It's missing by six inches. Not the best of decisions from umpire Tucker!

  15. Not outpublished at 25.4 overs

    Root 43, Morgan 19

Another good review from England. It hit the arm so no caught behind, the lbw should would be going well over. Morgan continues.

It was a double-bubble appeal - one for lbw and one for a catch.

  17. England reviewpublished at 25.4 overs

    Eng 119-2

Morgan given out caught behind, he's quick to review it. He went to reverse-sweep Shadab and it found the top edge.

England all-rounder on Test Match Special

Joe is a world-class player. In any conditions, he finds a way - he's picking up the ones and twos, realising it's a difficult pitch to score runs on. I think 270 would be very defendable on this surface, but the lads in the dressing room will be confident of an even bigger total.

Cheers Amy. Right then, what's a good score on this wicket? Few eyebrows raised when Pakistan decided to field this morning. England going well, not too easy to score. Let's see what happens in the second half of this innings.
