  1. 'Great exponents of the reverse swing'published at 16:02 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Surrey are great exponents of the reverse swing. They are a team that look after the ball on an abrasive surface. This square is quite dry and they look to reverse a ball and keep it dry.

  2. WATCH: Michael Lumb out lbw to Sam Curranpublished at 15:59 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

These Curran boys certainly don't hold back on the celebrations when they take a wicket.

Here is the clip of younger brother Sam removing Michael Lumb.

  3. Notts 66-2 - target 298published at 10 overs

A misfield by Scott Borthwick at backward point enables Samit Patel to get off the mark with a single, although partner Alex Hales doesn't look thrilled with the call.

Surrey were 74-0 after 10 overs - Notts are 66-2.

    Notts 64-2 - target 298

Alex Hales reached a 35-ball half-century with an off-drive for four past the despairing left hand of Tom Curran. This has been some innings so far after his early let-off, but you feel there may be another chance for Notts coming along.

  5. Notts 60-2 - target 298published at 9 overs

    Hales 10, Patel 0

Out comes Samit Patel, who made 257*, 66, 122* and 247 in successive innings before a failure in Notts' most recent Championship game against Kent. He takes no liberties with the final two balls of Ravi Rampaul's over.

Ravi Rampaul is into the attack from the Pavilion End, a veteran of 92 one-day internationals for West Indies, in which he claimed 117 wickets.

Riki Wessels drives back at the bowler and his deflection would have run out Alex Hales if it had hit the stumps.

Rampaul drops short with his next delivery and Wessels forces it away towards third man for four, but is then pinned in front by a much straighter delivery as Surrey take a much-needed second wicket.

  7. Notts 55-1 - target 298published at 8 overs

Sam Curran is off, and elder brother Tom is on as Surrey make their first change. A show of respect by Alex Hales? No chance - he smacks his second ball over mid-off for four to bring up Surrey's 50.

Ollie Pope is off the field at the moment for treatment on a hand injury suffered when he dropped Hales at cover in the second over.

  8. Notts 48-1 - target 298published at 7 overs

Jade Dernbach angles the ball in and an inside edge saves Alex Hales from a possible lbw shout. The batsman isn't happy with himself, chuntering away under his helmet. Can't think why, he's going like a train at the moment. In fact, he's going like one of Japan's bullet trains.

Speaking of that potentially-crucial drop, here it is...

  10. Hales looks purposefulpublished at 15:41 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    Adam Williams
    BBC Sport at Lord's

He may have been dropped on just nine, but Alex Hales looks like a man who's saying, 'anything Mark Stoneman can do, I can do better'.

It wasn't that long ago Hales was the man opening with Alastair Cook in England's Test side before he opted to miss the tour of Bangladesh last winter and then sustained an injury.

But beware. He made an equally destructive start at the top of Notts' order in the semi-final against Essex before falling for a quick-fire 39.

Can he show the same application and concentration Stoneman did earlier for Surrey to anchor this run-chase?

  11. Notts 46-1 - target 298published at 6 overs

Sam Curran is lucky as a short-wide delivery is flayed by Alex Hales - but straight at cover point. The next one is on the England one-day opener's pads and he chips it away for an easy two before launching a lofted cover drive away for four.

A bouncer is Curran's response and it is pulled away for a single-bounce four as 11 come from the over - Hales has 40 of the 46 runs by Notts so far. Gareth Batty may need to give his young new-ball bowler a break here.

  12. Notts 35-1 - target 298published at 5 overs

Jade Dernbach errs on leg stump and Alex Hales clips it away for four. The bowler makes the same mistake two balls later, but this time Hales can't beat short fine leg and then loses the strike as he collects a single.

New partner Riki Wessels - the only member of Notts' top six without a hundred in the One-Day Cup this year - thumps the next delivery through the cover gap for four. Nice start.

  13. Notts 25-1 - target 298published at 4 overs

Riki Wessels is the new batsman with one to face in the over. He meets the ball with a textbook defensive stroke.

  14. wicket

WICKET Lumb (lbw S Curran) 4published at 3.5 overs

    Notts 25-1 - target 298

Following his six at the start of the over, Alex Hales canes a boundary through the covers, but Sam Curran gets it right when Michael Lumb is back on strike and he is pinned in front. That's the breakthrough Surrey needed.

  15. 'A case of dropitis going around Lord's'published at 15:29 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Unbelivable, there must be something going around the ground - dropitis or something.

Two of the most regulation cover catches have gone down, one from Steven Mullaney earlier today and now Ollie Pope.

  16. 6 runs

    Notts 20-0 - target 298published at 3.1 overs

Sam Curran is just short of a length and Alex Hales clubs it away over mid-wicket for the first maximum of the day. He's clearly in uncompromising mood. Surrey need to get rid of him fast.

  17. Notts 14-0 - target 298published at 3 overs

    Hales 10, Lumb 4

Good stuff from Jade Dernbach in his second over, but left-hander Michael Lumb tucks the final delivery away for two as four are added from it.

  18. dropped catch

    Notts 10-0 - target 298published at 2 overs

Sam Curran bowls a full-length delivery in search of swing and Alex Hales drills it through the covers for four in imperious style. The next ball, though, is dug in and a top-edged pull lobs away behind square for a couple of runs.

Hales goes for another big drive to end the over but this time it's uppish - and teenager Ollie Pope drops the chance. Notts' fielding wasn't great earlier - Surrey cannot afford to be equally generous.

  19. Notts 4-0 - target 298published at 1 over

The first ball of the Notts innings is unremarkable, Jade Dernbach is short of a length and Michael Lumb plays it down safely on the offside.

The second finds the edge, but flies wide of the slips and Lumb is off the mark with a single, bringing Alex Hales onto strike. He is quickly under way, forcing the ball through backward point for two, and adds a single off a thick inside edge of backward square.

Decent over. Solid start. Game on.

  20. One-Day Cup final resumespublished at 15:13 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    Nottinghamshire need 298 to win

We had a dropped catch from the first ball of the Surrey innings. Will we have similar drama when Notts begin their reply? Will they make it third time unlucky for Surrey, the beaten finalists in 2015 and 2016? We are about to find out. The scoring rate needed by Notts is 5.96. Alex Hales and Michael Lumb are the two openers.
