  1. Surrey 156-2published at 28 overs

Mark Stoneman, with five List A centuries to his name, is now onto his best score of this summer's One-Day Cup. Can he go on to make a big'un?

He's poised on 82 from 95 deliveries, very much playing that all-important anchoring role.

Steven Mullaney and Samit Patel continue in tandem for Notts, singles galore and not much else to speak of.

Kumar Sangakkara has had a fabulous campaign so far but he couldn't put a big score on the board today.

Here is how he lost his wicket...

Former Surrey captain on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

I remember captaining in cup finals here at Lord's and when there was cloud around you weren't quite sure what to do, it always seemed such a big decision.

Most of the other grounds you know you're going to bat first but here there always was the cloud cover issue.

  4. Surrey 151-2published at 27 overs

    Stoneman 79, Borthwick 4

All that said, while we continue to whizz through the overs, this middle period of 50-over matches is a curious old thing. The batting side seem content to plod along with singles, the fielding equally happy to limit them to just that.

There's not been a boundary since the start of the 23rd over.

  5. Surrey 147-2published at 26 overs

There's nothing quite like collecting the baton with slower bowlers meandering in from both ends, is there? Talk about easing yourself in.

Samit Patel sends down another tidy set of six, with just a couple of singles coming from it. He and Steven Mullaney have been very impressive indeed so far.

    Surrey 145-2

Thanks, Paul. Hello, everyone! So then, where now? What sort of total are we looking at?

You'd just about sooner be in Surrey's camp than Nottinghamshire's at the midway point of the innings, but the loss of Kumar Sangakkara spices things up quite nicely. Consider that door well and truly ajar.

The only other wicket to fall so far today? That of England white-ball opener Jason Roy...

  7. Surrey 145-2published at 25 overs

Kumar Sangakkara's One-Day Cup stats for 2017 - 545 runs at an average of 77.85, including two centuries. Now, though, it's Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick who must carry Surrey forward, but they can only add one single in Seven Mullaney's latest over. And with that, I hand you over to Brendon Mitchell, who will take you through the remainder of the innings.

  8. Surrey 144-2published at 24 overs

Was that a dropped catch by Chris Read, or was that Mark Stoneman's bat making contact with his pad? Either way, he was deceived by a good ball from spinner Samit Patel, who is back into the attack. Three runs from the over.

  9. Surrey 141-2published at 23 overs

Welcome Scott Borthwick, who is beaten all ends up by a ball which cuts away from him off the pitch. Two ex-Durhamites now at the crease for Surrey.

    Surrey 141-2

Mark Stoneman picks up a boundary to start a new Steven Mullaney, but the all-rounder strikes a crucial blow for Notts by getting rid of Kumar Sangakkara. It's a smart catch by skipper Chris Read standing up to the stumps. There are those, principally in Nottinghamshire, I am sure, who think it's criminal that Read only played 15 Tests for England.

That is a huge wicket for Nottinghamshire and Steven Mullaney. Kumar Sangakkara looked like he was trying to guide it down to third man, a little bit of bounce finds the edge of his bat and straight through to Chris Read. That could be the turning point in this game."

  11. Surrey 136-1published at 22 overs

Stuart Broad strays onto leg stump and fine tickle by Kumar Sangakkara adds four to his score. Three balls later, Broad aims outside off stump and Sangakkara helps it on its way for another boundary to bring up the 50 partnership with Mark Stoneman off 65 balls.

Sangakkara's appetite for runs remains insatiable in his 40th year, and if I was Notts captain Chris Read, I'd be getting worried round about now.

  12. Surrey 128-1published at 21 overs

All-rounder Steven Mullaney may not have pace, but he is accurate enough with the ball to make the Surrey batsmen think. The batsmen have to manufacture angles to pick up singles and that's a fine over for Notts.

  13. Surrey 124-1published at 20 overs

    Stoneman 66, Sangakkara 20

Coach Peter Moores is all smiles on the Notts balcony... but maybe that will wipe it off his face as Kumar Sangakkara sashays down the pitch and wallops Stuart Broad over mid-off's head for four.

Partner Mark Stoneman now looks like he's settling in for the long haul after a flying start to his innings. His highest One-Day Cup score this season is 74 and this would be the perfect stage on which to improve it.

    Reaction to England's Test squad

Mark Thorn: That @ECB_cricket, external squad looks a batsman light to me.

Matthew Oliver: Ballance must be given a proper chance this series. Batting 3 v tough ask when normally middle order player.

Billy Paine: Rashid omission; criminal. Hameed, Stoneman omissions; frustrating. Unquestionably a strong starting XI however.

As I'm sure you'll have seen by now, England named their first Test squad of the summer this morning, with Gary Ballance recalled and Liam Dawson and Toby Roland-Jones also included.

What did you make of the selectors' picks? Let us know via #bbccricket on Twitter.

  15. Surrey 116-1published at 19 overs

    Stoneman 63, Sangakkara 15

James Pattinson is given a break after six overs for 26 runs. Chris Read calls up Steven Mullaney, whose medium-pacers are 20mph + slower. Six runs added from the over without any attempt at extravagant strokeplay by the two Surrey basmen.

  16. Surrey 110-1published at 18 overs

Stuart Broad is not offering Surrey any cheap runs. He's right on target throughout that over and Surrey can only add two to the score. I wonder what Gareth Batty would regard as a par total by his side. Eight an over from here would add another 256.

  17. Notts dragging it backpublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 1 July 2017

    Adam Williams
    BBC Sport at Lord's

After their lacklustre start, you get a sense Notts have pulled things together a bit in the field in the past five or six overs.

Bit of a captaincy masterstroke from Chris Read to bring Samit Patel on for an over, get the breakthrough and then haul him off for his two most experienced seamers in James Pattinson and Stuart Broad with Kumar Sangakkara's arrival at the crease.

But Pattinson has gone through six overs now from the Pavilion End and he'll need to be saved for a bit later on. Can someone step up with a magic spell for the Outlaws?

  18. Surrey 108-1published at 17 overs

    Stoneman 60, Sangakkara 10

A rueful smile from James Pattinson as Mark Stoneman edges one away aerially for his eighth boundary. The left-hander's scoring rate has been reeled in a little, but I wonder what the England selectors are making of this after omitting the left-hander from the Test squad - assuming they are watching.

  19. Surrey 101-1published at 16 overs

A single by Kumar Sangakkara takes Surrey to 100 and Mark Stoneman drives the next one through the covers, but Stuart Broad has a man out and he is kept to one.

Broad produces a fine delivery to end the over which finds the inside edge of Sangakkara's bat, but there is no breakthrough yet for the England pace bowler.

  20. Surrey 99-1published at 15 overs

James Pattinson overpitches and Kumar Sangakkara punches it away through mid-wicket for three, with a Stuart Broad-Samit Patel combination doing the fielding. Four from the over - Surrey just one short of three figures.
