First of all, well done to Fran Wilson who must have thought two days ago she might be sitting on the bench for this tournament. She struggled with her timing at first but then kept throwing the bowlers off, and looked inventive. Once she got going, and you know Katherine Brunt can hit big, it got exciting - so well done Fran, she gave England a real boost.

England looked like they'd over-thought their plans, while India looked ready to go.

India captain Mithali Raj, who made 71: "It's important that you get a start like this. It was s brilliant partnership between the openers. I realised the wicket isn't much of an assistance to the bowlers so I knew it would be challenging for England."

Here is the winning moment for India - substitute fielder Veda Krishnamurthy taking a fine diving catch to dismiss Anya Shrubsole and secure a 35-run victory.

Brunt was off her lengths, while the slower-paced bowlers were more effective, and it took England a while to realise this, while India started with a spinner.

England captain Heather Knight: "We thought it would do a little bit more this morning but I don't think we put it in the right areas. We didn't hit our line and lengths and India batted really well.

"I think we bowled a little bit too short and let them get away to a good start. We pulled it back a little in the middle and we backed ourselves to chase that score, but we couldn't get the spinners away in the middle.

"Throughout most of the innings I thought we were in the game. Fran batted brilliantly and when her and Katherine were going, we felt we were in a really good position."

Francis Edwards: Tuned in and heard that apparently England's tail can bat! Well, five minutes in and they definitely can't run!

How many games do you think teams can lose at this World Cup and still make the semi-finals?

A maximum of three. If you lose four of your seven games, you're very unlikely to qualify. Net run-rate could still come into it.

So England beat their highest ever World Cup run chase but still fell short of India's total by 36 runs.

With the batting they've got, and the variety in the bowling, India are looking really good.

  12. Player of the match - Smriti Mandhana (India)published at 17:24 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

India batsman Smriti Mandhana, who made 90: It's not the knee, it's just a bit of a hamstring issue. It's getting better. I'll be okay for the next match. The knee is absolutely fine. The last few months have been intense rehab and tough, but it's paying off.

"I enjoy batting with Punam. We had a very good partnership and I think we should continue this going forward in the World Cup.

"I think I gave my wicket at the wrong time - I'll try not to do it next time!"

India's ground fielding - when it came to run-outs - was also excellent. Here's the fourth of England's run-outs.

  14. Postpublished at 17:22 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

That's a cracking win for India. England's bowling didn't get going straight away and I don't think they negotiated the spin well at all. Credit to Smriti Mandhana, Mithali Raj and Punam Raut for setting up that win.

You would not have seen India put their bodies on the line with a diving catch like that in the last World Cup. Mithali Raj has marshalled them to a really good win. For England, I think they lost this game in the first eight overs.

And that, I'm afraid, is that. Anya Shrubsole goes for the big shot again and substitute Veda Krishnamurthy takes a fine catch, running in from the boundary to dismiss the last man England are all out, with 16 balls to spare.

That's huge from Shrubsole! A big swing of the arms and the ball goes flying down the ground and over the ropes.

    Eng 240-9

Ugh! For as good as India's fielding has been, their catching attempts have been awful. Anya Shrubsole flays the ball into the air and is shelled.

Alex Hartley is the last bat in, and she sweeps her first delivery away. It's a decent strike, the ball racing away, but a fine dive on the boundary from Mona Meshram cuts it off. Just two runs from the over.
