Heather Knight got off the mark with a four, and has then added 21 singles to reach 25.

  2. Eng 109-3published at 28 overs

    Target 282

A nervy moment for Fran Wilson as she lashes the ball up into the air. It goes up high and hangs for a long time but Jhulan Goswam, running in from the deep, has to let it bounce in front of her. Shikha Pandey, who has returned to the attack, looks thoroughly miffed. She adjust her sweatband and keeps on with the line and length

I've been extraordinarily nonplussed by the use of the paddle-sweep against bowlers so slow that the ball won't reach the boundary, rather than hitting them straight. Where you're going to get the most benefit against the slow bowlers, although it's a greater risk, is to hit them back over the top.

  4. Eng 103-3published at 27 overs

    Target 282

Matthew Hoggard is in the crowd, chatting to Clare Connor. Heather Knight works another singe to bring up England's 100. They keep going with the singles to keep the score ticking along, albeit very slowly.

  5. Eng 98-3published at 26 overs

    Wilson 20, Knight 23

This is better from Fran Wilson. First she goes over the top, the ball reaching Jhulan Goswami on the bounce, before she reverse-sweeps finely for another couple. There's still no boundaries coming - in fact, we haven't had one since the 16th over. It is a more profitable over from England though, with seven runs worked around the field.

  7. Eng 91-3published at 25 overs

    Target 282

Another tidy over for India, with Harmanpreet Kaur conceding just one run. Knight and Wilson meet in the middle to punch gloves - Knight then promptly changes her gloves - and chat tactics.

  8. White Ferns racing towards victorypublished at 15:42 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

New Zealand v Sri Lanka (Bristol)

Down in Bristol, Suzie Bates and Amy Satterthwaite have both hit unbeaten half centuries for New Zealand, who are 118-1 from 26 overs needing 189 to beat Sri Lanka. They look to have the White Ferns on course for victory - follow that game via our scorecard here.

    Bisht 4-0-14-0

Here's Ekta Bisht. England are more than happy to sweep around for a couple of runs here and there, but the boundaries are nearly non-existent. I have to agree with Charles Dagnall - I don't think prodding and poking around is the way to go.

During the Champions Trophy, you couldn't move for signs telling you which ground you were at - Cardiff, Edgbaston and The Oval. Here, there's not a single sign to tell you that you're in Derby. Obviously, if you're here, you probably know where you are, but you get my point.

  11. Eng 86-3published at 23 overs

    Knight 21, Wilson 10

Harmanpreet Kaur back into the attack, bowling off-spin round the wicket in her cap, and Wilson reverse-sweeps the first ball away for a single. Knight is still proceeding in singles, while Wilson - bat aloft in the manner of Jonny Bairstow - moves to double figures. But a moment of hesitation between the wickets means Wilson has to put in the dive to regain her ground off the last ball.

  12. Missed stumpingpublished at 22 overs

    Eng 82-3 (target 282)

Big stumping chance - as Deepti Sharma spins one past Heather Knight as she advances down the track, and with the England captain barely in the picture, it flies off keeper Sushmi Verma's glove down to short fine leg. Four singles from the over. Sharma has 1-11 from three overs, that'll do nicely for India.

The spinners are doing a good job at containing the innings - perhaps England are waiting for the pace bowlers to come back.

  14. A landmark umpire reviewpublished at 15:32 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

In the first use of the Decision Review System in international women's cricket, Natalie Sciver was given out caught behind.

  15. Eng 78-3published at 21 overs

    Target 282

Poonam Yadav throws the ball high into the air - calling it nicely flighted would be generous - and Knight can't get bat on ball. And again -another really high delivery, not spinning but forcing the batsman to wait and England can't knock it away The required run rate is creeping up by the over.

  16. England behind the rate...published at 15:29 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

At the end of 20 overs, India were 97 without loss.

  17. Eng 75-3published at 20 overs

    Knight 15, Wilson 5

A reverse sweep from Fran Wilson almost picks up a boundary, but the ball just sticks in the pitch a touch and they run a couple. Heather Knight goes on the drive but again, the fielder is there to cut it off. Boundaries are few and far between at the minute.

Pace off the ball seems to be the best way to contain the batting team.

  19. Eng 70-3published at 19 overs

These deliveries are so slow from Poonam Yadav. There's no pace for the batsmen to work with and there's a lot of time to second guess yourself. Heather Knight sweeps at a delivery that drifts back into her pads but she can't work it away. The England captain looks more than a touch irritated, and steals a very tight single from the final ball of the over.

Heather Knight's going to have to be the one to bat through and anchor this innings to keep England in the game.

You could just see Mithali Raj thinking about the review as it would be the first time she'd ever been in that situation [with DRS in use].
