The Indians are delighted - they know Sarah Taylor was the key wicket in this run chase. This is a big tournament for Nat Sciver, she'll want to show everyone how good she is.

Nat Sciver is the new batsman at the crease. Taylor knew that was out as soon as she hit it That wasn't the first chance she offered up - she nearly perished when she lifted the ball just over mid-on and just out of the fielder's reach.

    Taylor c Meshram b Pandey 22 (Eng 42-2)

Out! That's a really good catch from Mona Meshram. Taylor was going for her favourite shot, the pick up off her pads and trying to drive over the close field, but Meshram backpedalled and caught the ball with both hands above her head.

Cheers, Mitch. The excellent Shikha Pandey will continue out in the middle.

  5. Eng 40-1 (target 282)published at 10 overs

Sarah Taylor moves to 21 from 27 balls, picking up a two and a single from Goswami, while captain Knight is happy to play herself in at this stage - although she gets up on her toes to cut the last ball of the over for four backward of point. Back on the England bench, Danielle Wyatt is sensibly squeezing some sun cream onto her face - a sign that the sun is out, and hopefully we won't have to bother Messrs Duckworth and Lewis.

And with 10 overs completed, the fielding restrictions are relaxed, so are the text-commentary restrictions - so here's Amy Lofthouse.

India wicketkeeper Sushma Verma has a helmet that is omnipresent - she doesn't bother taking it off even when she stands back. Contrast that with Sarah Taylor, who barely bothers with pads and could probably do it without gloves.

  7. Eng 33-1 (target 282)published at 9 overs

England captain, part-time goldenarm spinner (with another two wickets to her name today) and BBC Sport columnist Heather Knight is in at number three - and has to dig out a good yorker from Pandey to prevent her from joining Beaumont back in the hutch. The skipper plays out a wicket maiden.

Pandey is bowling superbly in this over. She gave Beaumont a real stare-off there.

It was an odd dismissal. It looked like a bump ball. That's a great catch by Mandhana though, she's having a great day.

    Beaumont c Mandhana b Pandey 14 (Eng 33-1)

Oh, no! Beaumont chases a wide one from Pandey, her bat virtually at arm's length, but doesn't move her feet and edges to Smriti Mandhana at slip. England one down.

I will admit, now I've finished playing international cricket, that Jhulan Goswami was the hardest bowler I faced. It was her height and in England I found her more challenging because of the movement. She would hit those immaculate lengths and hit the bat hard.

    Eng 33-0 (target 282)

Dan Norcross on TMS has heard rumours of a possible shower later - stand by with those Duckworth-Lewis-Stern tables - while Taylor rides her luck slightly, lofting Goswami over wide mid-on, just out of the grasp of the leaping fielder and away for four. A taller fielder - or one right on the edge of the circle - might have taken that.

Sarah Taylor is opening for England today after Lauren Winfield was ruled out with a wrist injury.

But she's always been a top-order mainstay of the Aesthetically Pleasing XI, and she's taken the attack to pace bowler Jhulan Goswami - as you can see here.

  14. Eng 29-0published at 7 overs

    Beaumont 14, Taylor 14

Pandey is bowling in a headband in the manner of (delete as appropriate according to your nationality or age) Hamid Hassan, Jack Brooks or Dennis Lillee. Beaumont chops Pandey down to third man, once again it's three singles from the over and both batters have 14.

  15. NZ lose first wicketpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 24 June 2017

Over at Bristol, New Zealand have lost their first wicket in their chase of Sri Lanka's 188-9. Rachel Priest has been trapped lbw by spinner Chandima Gunaratne. The White Ferns are 36-1 after 8.2 overs. The scorecard is over here.

  16. Eng 26-0 (target 282)published at 6 overs

It's a change of ends for the vastly experienced Jhulan Goswami. Taylor and Beaumont keep the scoreboard ticking with singles, England's running between the wickets has been pretty sharp so far - something which was a big issue for coach Mark Robinson at their last global tournament, the World T20 last year. And a factor which played a part in Robinson's decision to end the international career of Charlotte Edwards.

I thought, in terms of bringing Sarah Taylor back into the game, that if things had shifted around at the last minute, you'd most probably go for the captain up top. But Taylor has opened plenty of times She looks good at the moment.

It was a nervy start for Tammy Beaumount against left-arm spinner Ekta Bisht. Here's the two early chances that she offered up.

  19. Eng 23-0published at 5 overs

    Beaumont 12, Taylor 10

Goswami's pace is indeed replaced by Pandey's right-arm medium at the City End. Sarah Taylor has a big smile on her face as Pandey is charged with a wide for one which just passes outside the tramlines outside off stump. A sharp single takes the Sussex stumper into double figures, while Beaumont dives well past mid-off - where Harmanpreet Kaur rather dives over the ball - and it disappears for four. England starting to move up through the gears well.

The England batters have settled a little bit better, India are going to make a change here with Shikha Pandey, who's a bit quicker than Jenny Gunn.
