  1. Aus 86-3published at 17.2 overs

    Villani 47 from 39 balls

Aussies never know when they're beaten - Elyse Villani certainly doesn't, cracking Poonam Yadav for back-to-back boundaries, the first through her favoured long-off area, the second clubbed through mid-wicket.

  2. New Zealand batter Katie Perkins is watching...published at 18:17 British Summer Time 20 July 2017

  3. Aus 78-3published at 17 overs

    Target 282 from 42 overs

Villani sweeps at misses at Gayakwad - but when she does connect, it beats two despairing dives (one at extra cover, one at wide long-off) on the way to the boundary. Villani has 39 from 37 balls.

  5. Aus 72-3published at 16 overs

    Perry 17 (28 balls), Villani 34 (33 balls)

Yadav serves up a loopy full toss but Villani can only drive it straight to a fielder. A cut single to the cover sweeper brings up the fifty stand. Perry nudges a single to move to 17. But ones and twos aren't going to win this game for Australia... the required rate has crept above eight for the first time.

Here's another boundary from Elyse Villani, who's been Australia's top scorer so far today:

  8. Aus 69-3published at 15 overs

    Target 282 from 42 overs

I suspect India will be rotating their three spinners in short spells here - it's slow left-armer Gayakwad back into the attack post-drinks. Perry, a little off colour in this innings, adds a two and a single to her score but the scorers are otherwise untroubled.

There's something with the Australian line-up that isn't quite right with me at the moment. But I wouldn't drop Villani as she's one of their best players of spin, and she's destructive in the middle order.

    Aus 66-3

India turn to their third spinner - like Australia, their trio contains an off-spinner, a leg-spinner and a slow left-armer. Diminutive leg-spinner Poonam Yadav skips in round the wicket, Villani is taking most of the strike at the moment but Australia won't mind that the way she's going, as a powerful sweep shot brings another four. You can see, when someone gets in on this wicket, just why Harmanpreet Kaur was so destructive.

Elyse Villani has had a good start with 33 from 30 balls - here she is being dropped on 10:

  12. Aus 60-3published at 13 overs

    Perry 11, Villani 28

Gayakwad is off after one over and Deepti Sharma has had a change of ends. Villani keeps the scoreboard ticking, while Sharma fires one outside leg stump, Perry tries to sweep but even though she can't connect, five wides are signalled. (So, with five runs rather than four and an extra delivery, Australia are actually better off than if she had connected). Villani comes down the wicket again and thumps a four through mid-off.

Elyse Villani has been the pick they've been stubborn about. She has the chance to make all the people who have been questioning her selection - myself included - eat their words.

  14. Aus 46-3published at 12 overs

    Target 282 from 42 overs

Pandey, having dropped that chance, continues for her fifth over as Villani desperately tries to keep the impetus going. Batting out of her crease, she opens the face to guide a four past backward point. A single takes her to an even 20 from 20 balls.

Australia's stubbornness could cost them a Lord's final. They've refused to play a sixth bowler. I knew it would cost them at some point. I thought it would be the final but it could be here today.

Here's the third Australia wicket to fall, leaving the defending champions wobbling at 21-3, as Nicole Bolton is caught and bowled by Deepti Sharma.

  17. dropped catch

Villani dropped on 10published at 11 overs

    Aus 41-3

Time for left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad, who missed most of this tournament with injury but returned to take 5-15 in their crucial game against New Zealand. But she's denied a wicket when Villani tries to hit down the ground and it goes through the hands-above-the-head of Pandey at mid-off. To add insult to injury, the ball disappears for four. Pandey is despatched back to the long-off rope, where she cuts off a single from Villani.

I said this earlier, I think Australia needed to have opened with Elyse Villani or Alyssa Healy as they needed to put the pressure back on India at the start - whereas the first four overs were just patted back.

  19. Aus 34-3published at 10 overs

    Target 282 from 42 overs

"Hear me roar," sings Katy Perry (a G Boycott favourite, lest we forget) over the PA system as the fielding restrictions are lifted. But Australia are going to to need to really roar if they're to win this... After that one over from Sharma, India turn back to Pandey. Villani cautiously advances down the track and cuts for four.
