    Warwickshire 321 v Lancashire 273 & 6-1

Haseeb Hameed is off the mark straight away with a four through the covers.

BBC Sport's Stephan Shemilt, who is at Edgbaston, describes it as "incredibly strange" that Hameed came in at three.

As soon as I find out why, I'll let you know!

Jos Buttler's promotion to open the batting hasn't worked. He's out for a single.

The England man flicks Keith Barker straight to Will Porterfield at mid-wicket.

Hmm, Haseeb Hameed does come in at three. I'll try and clear that one up!

    Warwickshire 321 v Lancashire 273 & 2-0

BBC Sport's Stephan Shemilt reports that Haseeb Hameed is not fit to open for Lancashire.

I'll bring you more news on how serious his hand injury is when I have it.

Nick Browne pulls Toby Roland-Jones away to the leg-side boundary to bring up the 200 stand with Alastair Cook.

    Essex are rattling along.

  5. Buttler opening for Lancashirepublished at 15:45 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Warwickshire 321 v Lancashire 273 & 0-0

With Haseeb Hameed off the field for some time yesterday with a hand injury, Jos Buttler has been promoted to open for Lancashire.

    I like that.

  6. rain stops play

Play abandoned at Yorkshirepublished at 15:44 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

Yorkshire 27-1 v Surrey 516-7 dec - no play Wednesday, rain

That's the right call from the umpires.

With no let up in the rain at Headingley, and the forecast terrible for the rest of the day, they decide to call it off for today.

The good news is that it looks dry tomorrow...

  7. All hail king Cookpublished at 15:40 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Essex 197-0 v Middlesex 246

Alastair Cook is a run machine.

Having been busy playing for England so often over the last 10 years he hasn't had as much time to thrash the ball to all parts of Chelmsford.

Well, he's certainly making up for lost time this season, averaging a 100 every 3.5 innings in the County Championship since 2016 - that's better than Surrey's Kumar Sangakkara!

  8. wicket

WICKET Panayi (b Clark) 16published at 15:36 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Warwickshire 321 v Lancashire 273

Warwickshire are bowled out with a first-innings lead of 48.

Jordan Clark finishes things off with his fourth wicket, bowling debutant George Panayi.

But only after the teenager put on a gutsy last-wicket stand of 36 with Boyd Rankin.

    Over to you bowlers.

    Shot!

Nick Browne dances down the wicket to Ollie Rayner and strokes him over the top of mid-off to the fence.

It's a ninth boundary for the left-hander. Essex are taking this game away from the county champions and quickly.

Middlesex introduce a bit of spin into the attack for the first time this afternoon as Ollie Rayner goes for a couple of singles.

    Batting is easy.

How do you think Essex will cope when Alastair Cook goes off to play for England for the rest of the summer? Who needs to step up?

  12. Clean-up under way at the Ageaspublished at 15:26 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Hampshire 211-9 dec v Somerset 43-1

It's time for the ground staff at the Ageas Bowl to really earn their money. It's stopped raining (for now at least) and if there's going to be some play any time soon they've got to put in a real shift.

  13. 'Dropped catches cost Lancashire'published at 15:24 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Warwickshire 308-9 v Lancashire 273

    Stephan Shemilt
    BBC Sport at Edgbaston

Lancashire will reflect on the dropped catches that may well have cost them a first-innings lead.

Andrew Umeed was dropped twice and made a hundred. Jeetan Patel was dropped twice and made a half-century.

Jonathan Trott was dropped once and did the same. The latest, at least the sixth, reprieved George Panayi, and he has contributed to a last-wicket stand that is worth 23.

  14. Warwickshire 300 uppublished at 15:22 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Warwickshire 307-9 v Lancashire 273

George Panayi hits Ryan McLaren for a couple of fours to take the Bears past 300.

Batting bonus points aren't in the equation anymore because Warwickshire have faced more than 110 overs.

But every run is crucial. They lead by 34.

  15. Postpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Essex 177-0 v Middlesex 246

    The runs continue to flow.

Nick Browne nudges Steven Finn to the boundary to take his opening partnership with Alastair Cook to 177.

    How many will Essex want?

  16. Division Two rain watchpublished at 15:18 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

The covers remain on at each and every one of the five Division Two fixtures, unfortunately.

There will be no play before 4.40pm in Cardiff between Glamorgan and Derbyshire, while late 'lunch' will be taken at 3.30pm at Hove, where there is hope that Sussex and Gloucestershire will add to the 11 balls bowled earlier.

It's the same situation at Northampton, where the umpires will conduct an inspection over a 3.30pm lunch in the match between Northants and Leicestershire.

Durham versus Worcestershire at Chester-le-Street is looking bleak, as is Nottinghamshire against Kent at Trent Bridge.

Theo Sheridan: Are you still taking suggestions for Cook's opening partner? Can we just have two Cooks? Anyone found a way to replicate him?

  18. Postpublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Essex 166-0 v Middlesex 246

Cook and BrowneImage source, Rex Features

There are still 87 overs remaining at the County Ground today.

And the forecast is looking fine for the final day tomorrow.

If Essex do manage to force a victory they could move 30 odd points clear at the top of Division One depending on other results.

A first title since 1992 is becoming a real possibility.

  19. 'Notts frustrated by rain'published at 15:00 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Notts 371 v Kent 180 & 105-4

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Rain has prevented any play so far on the third day of Nottinghamshire’s match against Kent at Trent Bridge.

There has been no let-up in the adverse conditions so far and the umpires have been unable to make even the most cursory of inspections.

The delay has been particularly frustrating for the home county, who are pressing for victory.

An early ‘lunch’ has been scheduled for 3.30pm and the umpires will monitor the situation after that 40-minute break.

  20. wicket

WICKET Umeed (lbw b Parry) 113published at 14:59 British Summer Time 28 June 2017

    Warwickshire 285-9 v Lancashire 273

One brings two for Stephen Parry at Edgbaston. Andrew Umeed's marathon innings comes to an end.

The Warwickshire opener's 392nd ball strikes him on the pad and he's a goner. it was probably a ball he should have gone forward to.

The 21-year-old spent more than eight hours in the middle - put your feet up for a bit pal!
