Half-century for Robsonpublished at 14:05 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 103-2 v Yorkshire

Another man who is trying to get his name back into the England selectors' mind is Middlesex opener Sam Robson.

This'll help. He brings up his third half-century of the season from 86 balls with a single off Jack Brooks.

He doesn't get too much of a mention these days regarding an England return. Is that harsh? Let us know if you think he should be back there. #bbccricket

Will Chilcott: Cook, Stoneman and Ballance for me - all averaging over 50 and scored hundreds. Selectors can't overlook Stoneman again surely.

  3. Darren Stevens wearing a jumperpublished at 14:01 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

And here is the slightly grainy evidence that the 41-year-old Kent batsman is indeed donning a sweater.

    Bonkers.

  5. Kent lose two more quick wicketspublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Worcestershire v Kent 88-5

If you're after wickets today then Worcester looks to be the place to be.

The home side have taken a fourth straight after lunch and it is a big one. Kent skipper Sam Northeast falls to Josh Tongue for 42.

And another! Joe Leach gets his third as Joe Weatherley is dismissed.

Kent are in big trouble. Veteran all-rounder Darren Stevens may be in even bigger trouble shortly- he's at the crease in a jumper!

  6. Anderson returns for second spellpublished at 13:51 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Lancashire v Hampshire 86-3

Good signs for England and Lancashire fans as Jimmy Anderson returns for a second spell after lunch.

No wickets from his six overs earlier on but he has kept things nice and tight, conceding just 14 runs.

He starts off with a maiden here. The Burnley seamer is up against two internationals in Australian George Bailey and England's James Vince. Good stuff.

  7. Lbw shout against Choprapublished at 13:47 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Essex 75-2 v Warwickshire

    Varun ChopraImage source, Rex Features

Rikki Clarke starts things off after lunch at Chelmsford bowling to Varun Chopra.

He thuds one into the pads of Chopra - who is playing against his former team remember - but the umpire isn't interested.

Can these batsman make hay this afternoon? I bet Alastair Cook is fuming in the dressing room after missing out today being dismissed by Jeetan Patel for 39.

    Thanks Gary.

That was a good morning session. For all of the talk of a batsman's paradise under blue skies, the bowlers did a good job taking wickets in all six of these matches.

How will this afternoon pan out in what is likely to be the hottest period of the day?

    Let's find out...

  11. Leicestershire 'in danger' after Raine injurypublished at 13:35 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Nottinghamshire 105-2 v Leicestershire

    Richard Rae
    BBC Radio Leicester Sport

It may look like honours roughly even at Trent Bridge, but Leicestershire are in trouble. Having chosen to bowl first on a pitch which has offered little assistance, their four-man attack has been reduced by one by injury to leading wicket-taker Ben Raine.

The all-rounder abandoned his run, took his cap from umpire Paul Pollard and headed straight for the pavilion, clearly distraught.

With both Mark Cosgrove and Colin Ackermann very much in the occasional class when it comes to bowling, it means the ageing Clint McKay, together with Gavin Griffiths and Dieter Klein, will have to shoulder the burden in sapping heat and humidity - against a Notts line-up that looks full of runs.

  12. Both sides will be happypublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Lancashire v Hampshire 84-3

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

Both sides will probably be fairly happy with that first two hours.

Lancashire because of the three quick wickets after a quiet opening 50 minutes.

Hampshire because of a 46-run unbroken stand between James Vince and George Bailey in the aftermath.

James Anderson although wicketless, bowled a six over opening spell in which he cruised through after his return from a groin tear.

And Kyle Jarvis bowled nine overs on the bounce after a month out with fractured thumb.

  13. Seamers impress for Worcestershirepublished at 13:29 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Kent 73-3 v Worcestershire

    Matt Cole
    Sports Editor, BBC Radio Kent

When Kent skipper Sam Northeast won the toss on a hot, sunny morning and elected to bat, the sages at Worcester were already muttering about Kent building an innings well into day two.

As it’s turned out, Worcestershire’s seamers have made it a very tough first session, particularly from the New Road End where first Joe Leach (2-7) and then Ed Barnard (1-25) have got it to fizz off a length.

Northeast himself looks to be steadying the innings on 39 not out, but Worcestershire will be very happy with their first morning’s work in this battle between second and third in County Championship Division Two.

  14. Even morning session at Lord'spublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 82-2 v Yorkshire

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

The late wicket of Stevie Eskinazi, bowled by Jack Brooks, has evened the morning session after Middlesex elected to bat.

Sam Robson and Nick Compton put on 64 for the opening stand after withstanding a tough start from Jack Brooks and Ryan Sidebottom with the latter eventually kicking off to the keeper to hand Steve Patterson the breakthrough.

With three draws already recorded at Lord's in the Championship this year, plenty of grass has been left on the pitch and there was seam and swing in abundance from the off.

Brooks' second spell, which accounted for the Middlesex number three, was vastly improved though and the visitors appeared to settle to the task far better in the run up to the interval.

  15. Day for the spinners at Chelmsford?published at 13:21 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Essex 73-2 v Warwickshire

    Richard Wilford
    BBC WM

Warwickshire's decision to field two spinners is looking wise as Jeetan Patel and Sunny Singh found some assistance before lunch on the first day.

Patel drew the rewards, capturing Cook and Westley in quick succession but Singh also troubled former Bears' skipper Chopra.

Nick Browne's persistence saw him make 25 in the 30 over session without looking comfortable.

  16. 'Sedate stuff' in the Durham sunshinepublished at 13:18 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Durham v Glamorgan 66-1

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

The scoring rate has dropped to around one an over at the Riverside with Glamorgan adopting a safety-first approach after choosing to bat.

Nick Selman and Andrew Salter have been playing very cautiously with Paul Collingwood conceding one run on four overs and spinner Ryan Pringle going for six off six.

Chris Rushworth claimed the only wicket, bowling Jacques Rudolph for 13 with an excellent delivery, but it's been sedate stuff in the sunshine.

  17. In-form Patel and Taylor looking strongpublished at 13:14 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Nottinghamshire 105-2 v Leicestershire - lunch

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Nottinghamshire negotiated a tricky start after being put in to reach 105-2 at lunch.

Jake Libby fell inside the first hour, nibbling Dieter Klein down the leg side.

On a stiflingly hot day, the visitors’ gamble of opting to bowl first and pick up early top order wickets wasn’t helped by the early loss of Ben Raine. The all-rounder had sent down 3.2 overs before he left the action in some discomfort.

Steven Mullaney appeared untroubled in making 40 from 59 balls but then had his defences exposed as Gavin Griffiths nipped one back to flatten his middle stump.

Brendan Taylor (42) and Samit Patel (11), both fresh from centuries in the one-day competition last week, made it through to the interval without too many alarms, although Taylor edged Griffiths through the slip cordon for four in the final over of the session.
