Sam Robson hits a centurypublished at 16:32 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 238-2 v Yorkshire

    Well batted Sam Robson.

The Middlesex opener has gone a little under the radar so far this season, but he's enjoying a mightily fine one.

That's his second hundred, to go along with two fifties, and he's averaging just a shade under 80 in the Championship.

Paul Stirling is just two away himself...

Fifty for Ravi Boparapublished at 16:30 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Essex 180-3 v Warwickshire

Ravi has had a pretty lean times of things with the bat so far this season, but the all-rounder brings up his second half-century of the campaign with a cover drive for three off Jonathan Trott.

The Division One leaders are beginning to set a very nice platform at Chelmsford.

  3. Tea at Old Traffordpublished at 16:24 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Lancashire v Hampshire 202-6

That's tea in Manchester - at 4.23PM!!! (see 16:09 entry).

George Bailey is six away from a deserved century.

  4. 'Pair have hardly offered a sniff'published at 16:23 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 228-2 v Yorkshire - tea

    Kevin Hand
    BBC Radio London

Middlesex enjoyed a crucial wicketless session to move to 228-2 at tea having won the toss this morning.

Sam Robson and Paul Stirling are both unbeaten in the nineties and share a 153-run stand for the third wicket having barely offered a sniff to the bowlers.

The importance of the partnership can't be overstated given the absentees from the batting line up with overseas signing Adam Voges injured and Nick Gubbins and Dawid Malan on international duty.

The pitch was offering swing and seam movement this morning but the pace appears to have come off the ball considerably as it has aged.

Yorkshire have toiled under grueling heat and will hope the interval breaks the concentration of a pair that have already built a solid foundation for the hosts.

  5. A captain's knockpublished at 16:22 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Lancashire v Hampshire 203-6

What a captain's knock this is from Australia batsman George Bailey.

The Hampshire skipper is up to 93 as the visitors bring up their first batting bonus point at Old Trafford.

Can they sneak up to 300?

  6. Kent relying on tail againpublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Worcestershire v Kent 230-8 - tea

    Matt Cole
    Sports Editor, BBC Radio Kent

Kent have again relied on their tail to add respectability to their first innings score.

At 139-7 when Darren Stevens went for a characteristically combative 39, Worcestershire’s seamers seemed ready to deliver the coup de grace their excellent work deserved.

A 79-run partnership between Adam Rouse (34) and Matt Coles (47*) held them up in entertaining fashion, and got Kent to their first bonus point.

19-year-old Josh Tongue has again impressed with the ball, adding 3-47 so far to his career best six-wicket haul from the Pears’ previous game against Glamorgan.

With some variable bounce and life, this pitch is far from the New Road “road” many predicted at the start, and any score north of 275 is starting to look like a decent total.

  7. Patel continues fine formpublished at 16:14 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Notts 212-3 v Leicestershire - tea

    Dave Bracegirdle
    BBC Radio Nottingham commentator

Samit Patel continued to make the most of his fine recent form by passing fifty for the fifth consecutive innings.

Following scores of 82, 257 not out, 66 and 122 not out, the 32-year old is on 70 not out at tea.

Patel and Brendan Taylor resumed their third wicket stand after lunch and had stretched it to 80 by the time that the visitors struck again.

Dieter Klein made the breakthrough, having Taylor caught behind to a regulation nick on 61.

Patel was given not out on 37, after the umpires had conferred with the Foxes claiming a slip catch by Paul Horton but a bump ball seemed to be their judgement.

Michael Lumb is on 26 and has put on 56 with Patel so far.

  8. Tea at Lord'spublished at 16:11 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 228-2 v Yorkshire

Well, they're off now at Lord's.

Sam Robson (97) and Paul Stirling (92) stroll to the Long Room with an unbroken stand of 153 under their belts so far.

Plenty more to come for Middlesex you expect as the county champions chase their first win of 2017.

  9. Back out at Essexpublished at 16:09 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Essex 162-3 v Warwickshire

Call me old school, but I kind of miss the days when tea was at 3.40pm.

Essex are coming out after their refreshments, Middlesex haven't even been off at Lord's.

Lancashire and Hampshire are still in the afternoon session at Old Trafford too.

    All very confusing!

  10. Postpublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

Goodness me, Dave Townsend is brave! Good job they're not at Headingley.

Meanwhile Sam Robson and Paul Stirling are both in the 90s. Nervous times?

Thanks Matt. It's not getting any cooler is it? The bowlers could be in for a long evening session with several batsmen going along nicely.

With games at tea, or approaching tea, let's take a quick look at the scores on the doors...

    WICKET - McManus (c Anderson b Clark) 15published at 15:54 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Lancashire v Hampshire 177-6

A breakthrough just before tea for Lancashire!

A beauty from Jordan Clark sees Lewis McManus' innings come to an end as he edges to Jimmy Anderson in the slips.

McManus has supported his captain well, sticking around for over an hour in support of George Bailey who has 78.

  15. Durham bowlers toilingpublished at 15:53 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Durham v Glamorgan 147-2 - tea

    Nick Webb
    BBC Wales Sport

It's been more of the same from Glamorgan in the afternoon session with 81 added for the loss of Andrew Salter, caught behind off Chris Rushworth for 25.

There's been a marginal acceleration from Nick Selman and Colin Ingram with their partnership of 63 coming at 2.71 runs per over, Selman reaching 80 by tea.

Durham have toiled in vain on a sluggish pitch, with little encouragement for their six-man attack in the stifling heat.

But day one still hangs in the balance as we hope for more entertainment after tea.

    Essex 160-3 v Warwickshire

The players at Chelmsford head off for tea with the score 160-3.

That was very much Essex's session after they had a tricky time of it this morning.

Nick Browne and Ravi Bopara head back to the dressing room on 58 and 35 respectively.

  18. Robson into the 90spublished at 15:43 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 214-2 v Yorkshire

There's a race on for three figures at the home of cricket.

Sam Robson is the first into the 90s as he hits Adil Rashid to the rope.

The opener is now on 92, Paul Stirling at the other end on 83.

    Ravi BoparaImage source, Rex Features

Things are slowing down at Chelmsford as we head towards tea.

    How do I know?

Jonathan Trott is on for a bowl for Warwickshire.

Nick Browne and Ravi Bopara are doing a good job for Essex, they've put on 61.

  20. Stirling still attackingpublished at 15:36 British Summer Time 19 June 2017

    Middlesex 209-2 v Yorkshire

Paul Stirling has four first-class centuries but none in the County Championship with all of those tons coming for Ireland. Could today be the day?

After giving Jack Brooks and Adam Lyth the treatment earlier, he's now doing the same to England's premier leg spinner Adil Rashid, hitting him for back-to-back fours.

He's on 82 now from 92 balls, within one hit of his highest County Championship score of 85.
