Without a ball being bowled and in the pouring rain, Worcestershire's match against Lancashire has succumbed to the elements.

Both teams take a point from the match, but that will be of little comfort.

Both of these openers have made a rapid start with the run rate up over 10.

We had our first hat-trick of the tournament last night thanks to Kent's Matt Coles and we nearly had a second just there.

Derbyshire seamer Wayne Madsen sent Notts opener Alex Hales back to the pavilion with the final ball of his first over and takes the wicket of Samit Patel with the first of his second.

But Brendan Taylor hits the hat-trick ball for four.

  4. Surrey 41-0published at 4 overs

    Roy 18 Finch 23

First change of bowling as Toby Roland-Jones comes into the attack. It has been all seam so far which is interesting as this is a used pitch that looks tired in places.

You'd think Surrey need to make hay while the ball is hard and Jason Roy does just that by clipping a leg-side delivery from Roland-Jones for his third four.

And again! Roy steps to leg and the bowler follows him but the England opener flicks off his legs for four more.

  5. Surrey 32-0published at 3 overs

How has that missed? A ball after being hit for four, Tim Southee bamboozles Aaron Finch with a slower delivery that somehow misses leg stump.

Southee follows that up with a bouncer but Finch manages to get a top edge and the ball flies over the keeper for another boundary.

Finch almost serves up a chance to Dawid Malan at mid-wicket later in the over. I think the fielder may have got a fingertip on that but I'm not even going to call it a drop.

  6. Notts' Hales out for fourpublished at 18:41 British Summer Time 21 July 2017

    Around the grounds

The first wicket of tonight's action came at Trent Bridge - England international Alex Hales caught off the bowling of Wayne Madsen for just four.

Hales had made 47 against Yorkshire a fortnight ago so what a key wicket that could be.

Speaking of Yorkshire, after smashing a six Adam Lyth has fallen for a six-ball eight against Birmingham at Headingley as the hosts stand at 16-1 after four overs.

  7. Surrey 21-0published at 2 overs

    Roy 10 Finch 11

Steven Finn is handed the ball to bowl the second over and already has his pace up.

The England quick is already nudging 90mph and beats Aaron Finch outside off stump.

Take cover! Jason Roy comes down the pitch to Finn and whacks his England team-mate back down the ground, almost taking out his batting partner. Four more to the score.

This match sees some of the biggest stars of this season's T20 Blast face off and that's got us thinking - which star will have the biggest impact on this year's competition?

Glamorgan's South African Colin Ingram is currently leading the batting charts will he continue to lead the way? Will one of the players on show tonight star?

What about Alex Hales at Notts? Mohammad Amir at Essex? There are too many to list. Let us know what you think at #bbccricket.

  9. Surrey 14-0published at 1 overs

"Ooooo". Gasps followed by cheers as Jason Roy gets off the mark with a streaky inside edge down to fine leg for four.

Now its short and wide from Southee. Aaron Finich is too good to bowl there. Slapped for four.

Good start for the hosts. Australian Finch keeps the strike with a single off the final ball.

  10. Surrey 0-0published at 0 overs

Right then. The Oval is packed. The sun is shining. Music pumping.

Jason Roy and Aaron Finch are the Surrey openers, Tim Southee will start off the bowling.

While much of the country is bathing in glorious sunshine, down in the south west corner of Great Britain they aren't enjoying a dose of Vitamin D.

In fact, Somerset's match against Gloucestershire at Taunton was rained off without a ball even being bowled.

Meanwhile, both Glamorgan v Sussex and Worcestershire v Lancashire will start late, that is, of course, if the rain passes.

Last night Kent bowler Matt Coles produced the first hat-trick of this year's T20 Blast, only to end up on the losing side thanks to a brilliant performance from Middlesex batsman Brendon McCullum.

New Zealand batsman McCullum hit smashed six sixes in his 51-ball 88 for Middlesex. Not a bad warm-up for tonight.

Elsewhere, Leicestershire won at Durham while Sussex beat Hampshire.

Steven Finn was Middlesex's hero when they met Surrey in a dramatic match at Lord's last week.

The number 11 batsman hit the winning runs - probably one of the first times he's done that in his career - in a thoroughly entertaining match which saw wickets absolutely tumble down.

    School's out for summer.

It's that time of year when everyone hops on a plane or into a car packed full of every item that the family owns to go off to some destination far away from home.

But in celebration of the end of term, Surrey v Middlesex at the Oval will be just as choc-a-bloc as those aforementioned automobiles and is set to be a sell out.

If it's anything like the last time this pair met... we are in for a treat.
