    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Hampshire have looked a class above Derbyshire.

Derbyshire have had a good season overall but Hampshire on paper are a world class side. They've been outstanding.

It was near on the perfect batting display by Hampshire. It was an extraordinary innings by Shahid Afridi, backed up by a perfect bowling and perfect fielding display.

HAMPSHIRE BEAT DERBYSHIRE BY 101 RUNSpublished at 21:19 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    Derbys 148 v Hampshire 249-8

We thought it may be a boring second innings and so it has proved.

Derbyshire had to go hard in the Powerplay. They did, lost early wickets, and any slim chance they had of a record chase went pretty early.

Efficient display from Hampshire in the field. Gave nothing away with the ball and caught well.

  7. Derbys 146-9 (Target 250)published at 19 overs

    Cotton 29, Tahir 22

I thought we'd be long done by now but this pair have at least extended the entertainment.

  8. Derbys 142-9 (Target 250)published at 18 overs

    Cotton 27, Tahir 20

Oh my goodness Imran Tahir goes inside out to take six over extra-cover and he goes to a career-best T20 score! Remarkable.

Ben Cotton has also gone to a T20 career-best so Derbyshire's players could at least get a free round of drinks out of this torrid night.

  9. Derbys 133-9 (Target 250)published at 17 overs

    Cotton 25, Tahir 13

Imran Tahir, goodness, goes down on one knee to slog sweep Liam Dawson over deep square. What a shot.

  10. Derbys 122-9 (Target 250)published at 16 overs

    Cotton 21, Tahir 6

Big Ben Cotton finds the fence over long-off, that is a lovely strike.

  11. Derbys 107-9 (Target 250)published at 15 overs

    Cotton 8, Tahir 4

Last rites being said on this game now.

  12. wicket

WICKET Hughes (c Wood b Crane) 23published at 14.3 overs

    102-9

Thrown up by Mason Crane, Alex Hughes tries to smash it down the ground but got far too much elevation and it's an easy catch for long-on.

  13. Derbys 101-8published at 14 overs

    Hughes 23, Cotton 6

Alex Hughes provides one minuscule moment of riposte against Shahid Afridi with a mighty sweep over midwicket for six.

  14. Derbys 94-8 (Target 250)published at 13 overs

    Hughes 17, Cotton 5

Can Derbyshire bat out the overs? Does that even matter? Do we have any biscuits left?

  15. wicket

WICKET Smit (b Crane) 17published at 12.4 overs

    Derbys 89-8

The latest reverse sweep attempted from Daryn Smit, this time it's rather agricultural, he misses and loses his middle stump.

  16. Derbys 86-7 (Target 250)published at 12 overs

    Hughes 16, Smit 15

Man of the night, Shahid Afridi, onto bowl. He's swept first ball for four and has an lbw appeal turned down.

  17. Derbys 80-7 (Target 250)published at 11 overs

    Hughes 15, Smit 10

Pleasant reverse sweep from Daryn Smit and then a paddle sweep over his head.

  18. Derbys 72-7 (Target 250)published at 10 overs

    Hughes 13, Smit 4

Decent blows in the overs, one each for Daryn Smit and Alex Hughes but it's merely delaying the inevitable here.

  19. Derbys 59-7 (Target 250)published at 9 overs

    Hughes 4, Smit 0

  20. wicket

WICKET Henry (c Alsop b Dawson) 1published at 8.5 overs

    58-7

Big swing from Matt Henry towards the deep square fence but not enough club on it and Tom Alsop does really well to take it diving to his left in the end.
