"For the whole season I've not been feeling right, at about 60 or 70 % fitness because of my lower back and side.

"This is a crucial game, so I thought I had to take a chance. I'm never afraid of failure, I was waiting for that opportunity."

Hampshire knew Wayne Madsen had been exceptional with the ball bowling in the first six overs so they sent Shahid Afridi in to take him down.

That instantly put Derbyshire on the back foot and it was a mighty onslaught from there.

Hampshire all-rounder Shahid Afridi tells Sky Sports:

  5. Hampshire make 249-8published at 19:56 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    Alsop 16, Wood 0

Wow. Derbyshire will need a miracle to pull this chase off.

It's an absolutely mammoth score from the visitors.

  6. wicket

WICKET Abbott (run out) 0published at 19.4 overs

    Hants 241-8

It's another run out. That's a million wickets in the last few balls.

Kyle Abbott is the latest to go.

  7. wicket

WICKET Carberry (run out) 9published at 19.2 overs

    Hants 239-7

This is fun for a live text writer. Not!

It's another wicket - Michael Carberry is run out while attempting to come back for two.

    Hampshire already have plenty.

  8. Hants 238-6published at 19.1 overs

    Carberry 9, Alsop 4

Matt Henry takes the final over and Tom Alsop greets him with a swipe for four.

  9. wicket

WICKET Berg (c Hughes b Critchley) 0published at 19 overs

    Hants 234-6

This is classic T20 cricket. Wickets are tumbling at the end of the innings.

Gareth Berg is out for a golden as he looks to go big but can only find Alex Hughes in the deep.

That's three wickets in the over for Matt Critchley, but not huge celebrations from the Derbyshire fielders.

  10. wicket

WICKET Dawson (c Smit b Critchley) 10published at 18.5 overs

    Hants 234-5

Liam Dawson smashes another big straight six before nicking Matt Critchley behind.

Dawson doesn't like it, but he's got to go.

  11. wicket

WICKET Vince (c Godleman b Critchley) 55published at 18.2 overs

    Hants 224-4

James Vince is caught on the deep mid-wicket boundary, but he's done his job.

He seems to get a big piece of it, but Billy Godleman clings on.

Liam Dawson comes in for the final 10 balls.

  12. Hants 223-3published at 18 overs

    Vince 55, Carberry 8

That's not a bad over from Matt Henry in the circumstances.

The big New Zealander concedes just 10 off the 18th, with one boundary from Michael Carberry.

Can Hants get past Yorkshire's record T20 Blast score of 260 set a few nights ago?

  13. 50 runs

for James Vincepublished at 17 overs

    Hants 213-3

This is help yourself stuff from Ben Cotton. Buffet bowling.

James Vince times a length ball over cover, yes over cover, for six before swatting him for another max to move to his fifty off 32 balls.

    It's an absolute onslaught.

  14. wicket

WICKET Bailey (c Hughes b Cotton) 27published at 16.2 overs

    Hants 198-3

It's another fine catch, but is it too late for Derbyshire?

George Bailey hits Ben Cotton for a maximum over mid-on, but then slices the seamer into the off-side and Alex Hughes takes the catch tumbling backwards.

It doesn't matter too much for Hampshire - they have plenty of batting left.

  15. 'Incredible stuff'published at 19:37 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Hampshire have hit it consistently as hard as any team I've seen this season.

It's been incredible stuff and an excellent cameo from George Bailey.

    But now comes Michael Carberry.

  16. Hants 192-2published at 16 overs

    Vince 38, Bailey 21

Derbyshire just can't stop the flow of boundaries.

George Bailey cuts medium-pacer Alex Hughes through point before James Vince goes six down the ground, four over mid wicket.

    19 from the over.

  17. 6 runs

    Hants 173-2published at 15 overs

    Vince 25, Bailey 16

That's gorgeous from George Bailey. The Aussie skips down the track and belts Matt Critchley over long off for six.

He's up to 16 off just seven balls.

  18. Hants 160-2published at 14 overs

    Vince 20, Bailey 8

Imran Tahir has gone for 42 off his four overs. That's the level of chaos we've seen out there.

George Bailey is the latest to get in on the boundary-fest, reverse sweeping the South Africa spinner to the rope.

Hampshire will surely be looking for north of 220 here. Six overs to go.

  19. Hants 151-2published at 13 overs

    Vince 18, Bailey 1

George Bailey is the new man in. The Australian can strike some meaty blows himself.

Hampshire are on for a huge score here.

  20. 'Brutal, powerful, exquisite'published at 19:22 British Summer Time 22 August 2017

    James Taylor
Ex-England batsman on BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

It's been a brutal, powerful and exquisite innings.

What a manoeuvre from Hampshire to push him up the order. A stroke of genius.

He hasn't done anything all tournament.
