  3. 50 runs

for Haseeb Hameedpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Lancashire 133 & 127-1 f/o (52 overs) v Somerset 335

    Haseeb HameedImage source, Rex

I doubt he's thinking about an England Ashes place now but a third half-century of the season will do Haseeb Hameed's hopes no harm.

He's also giving Lancashire a fighting chance here.

    The deficit is 75.

  4. Double setback for Kentpublished at 14:04 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Gloucestershire 385 v Kent 210-5 (63.2 overs)

No sooner have we sung the praises of Kent's Joe Denly and Sam Northeast than they depart in the space of three deliveries at Bristol. Northeast is first to go, bowled by Kieran Noema-Barnett for 56, and Denly follows for 57 as he edges a ball from Matt Taylor to the keeper. They put on 106 in 30 overs for the fourth wicket.

  5. wicket

WICKET Mellor (c Chopra b Harmer) 4published at 14:04 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 55-6 (25.3 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

There's just no halting the Essex bowlers.

More good bowling from Simon Harmer as he spins one from a middle stump line and finds the outside edge of Alex Mellor. The ball is deflected to slip where Varun Chopra takes the catch.

Essex start after the rain just how they were this morning. Four wickets needed for the win.

  6. Lamb survives lbw appealpublished at 14:03 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 55-5 (25 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Despite the rain delay Jamie Porter is right on the money as he starts again for Essex.

He has a big appeal for lbw turned down on his first ball of the over and then Matt Lamb almost players on a few balls later.

No wonder he leads the wicket-taking charts. He's been excellent in this match.

  7. Division Two round-uppublished at 14:00 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

Having reached 50 against Gloucestershire a few minutes ago, Kent's Sam Northeast has now followed partner Joe Denly's lead and passed 1,000 Championship runs for the summer. The pair have put on over 100 together to see their side to 210-4 in the 63rd over.

A delayed resumption at Cardiff, but Glamorgan and Northants are out there now and the home side have lost Colin Ingram, bowled by Azharullah for 25, in progressing to 138-5. Their lead is only 35.

Derbyshire are in a much healthier position against Sussex at Hove. They are 151-4, 218 runs in front, with Matt Critchley on 33 not out.

  8. Porter restarts for Essexpublished at 13:58 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 55-5 (24 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Almost two hours after they headed off the players are back out at Edgbaston.

There are 63 overs left today.

As we have said, Essex need five wickets to beat Warwickshire and if they do so and Lancashire fail to beat Somerset they'll be crowned county champions.

  9. Lancashire attacking?published at 13:50 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Lancashire 133 & 118-1 f/o (47 overs) v Somerset 335

Is this a post lunch plan from Lancashire?

Haseeb Hameed hits his sixth four to move to 45. 20 runs have come in the last three overs.

  10. wicket

WICKET Barnard (c Hill b Raine) 30published at 13:47 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Leicestershire 404 v Worcestershire 447-8 (106.2 overs)

Worcestershire lose another wicket at New Road, but this time it isn't Callum Parkinson who strikes. The spinner is still wheeling away, but Ben Raine is the successful bowler as Ed Barnard is caught behind after a stand of 63 with Ben Cox, who remains unbeaten on 60.

  11. 100 runs

100 up for Lancashirepublished at 13:46 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Lancashire 133 & 113-1 f/o (46 overs) v Somerset 335

    This is interesting.

Liam Livingstone brings up the Lancashire 100 and then takes the attack to Somerset's spinners.

He hits Leach for four before whacking Dominic Bess over the leg side for six.

Lancashire now trail by 89 following on.

  12. 50 runs

for Sam Northeastpublished at 13:43 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Gloucestershire 385 v Kent 195-3 (59 overs)

England have tried out just about every aspiring top-order batsman in the last couple of years - with the exception, Kent supporters will point out, of Sam Northeast. He reaches a 75-ball fifty at Bristol with a boundary off Liam Norwell and adds another two balls later for good measure.

The visitors are 190 behind and with Northeast and Joe Denly closing on a century partnership, it's looking good as far as seeing off the threat of the follow-on is concerned.

  13. 14:00 resumptionpublished at 13:37 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 55-5 (24 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

If there is no further rain, play will resume at 14:00 BST at Edgbaston.

Warwickshire will restart on 55-5, 113 runs behind Essex.

Essex need five wickets for victory which would all-but confirms their title win.

  14. New bat, pleasepublished at 13:34 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Gloucestershire 385 v Kent 181-3 (57 overs)

Let's hope Joe Denly remembered to take a spare to Bristol.

  15. More showers forecastpublished at 13:32 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Lancashire 133 & 96-1 f/o (42 overs) v Somerset 335

There are more showers forecast at Taunton this afternoon so there may be a couple more interruptions.

Assuming Essex do take the five wickets they need for victory today, then their title win will only be confirmed when Somerset against Lancashire ends.

If Lancashire lose, Essex win the title and Somerset will take a huge step towards safety, while it will also put Yorkshire and Middlesex right in the relegation mix.

  16. wicket

    WICKET Leaning (c Foakes b S Curran) 32published at 13:30 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Surrey 592 v Yorkshire 302-5 (88.4 overs)

Yorkshire have their third batting point - but lose their fifth wicket early in the afternoon session at the Oval as Jack Leaning edges to the keeper. He made 28 of his 32 runs in boundaries and put on 59 with Andy Hodd, who has now been joined by Tim Bresnan.

  18. Play restarts at Tauntonpublished at 13:26 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Lancashire 133 & 92-1 f/o (40.1 overs) v Somerset 335

    Back under way at Taunton.

Somerset's Jack Leach starts off to Haseeb Hameed and the Lancashire opener pushes the ball into the leg side and picks up a comfortable three.

  19. Season over for Godlemanpublished at 13:24 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Derbyshire 338 & 122-3 v Sussex 271 - lunch

Bad news for Derbyshire supporters with skipper Billy Godleman to miss the rest of the season after breaking a bone in his right hand on day one at Hove.

The extent of the injury was revealed by an x-ray and Derbyshire say he will be in a cast for "a period of weeks".

Gary Wilson will lead the team in their final two Championship games.

  20. Rain updatepublished at 13:20 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

News from the various rain delays in Division One.

At Edgbaston the covers are being removed and there will be an inspection at 13:30 BST as Essex look to get back out against Warwickshire after the delay.

Elsewhere, the umpires took Somerset and Lancashire off early for lunch when the rain came around 30 minutes ago but now the covers are off under sunny skies at Taunton. That one should resume shortly.

No play has been possible today at Uxbridge and another inspection will be held at 14:00 BST. The wet outfield really has caused havoc with that match between Middlesex and Hampshire with only 30.1 overs possible so far in three days.
