  1. Essex made to waitpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 101-8 (40 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Alastair Cook is in the ground to support his Essex teammates and is currently chatting with his old England teammate Ian Bell who is playing for Warwickshire of course.

It all seems very light-hearted despite this match still going on.

I think both sides are well aware of their very different fates. Brookes survives another Harmer over.

  2. Warwickshire reach 100published at 14:57 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 100-8 (39 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

18-year-old debutant Henry Brookes gets off the mark in the second innings with a push for three as Warwickshire try to avoid the embarrassment of a double figure score.

And now the hosts do pass 100! A smattering of applause from the sparse crowd.

This partnership has frustrated Essex for five overs. The visitors still need two wickets to win the match.

  3. wicket

WICKET Croft (lbw Bess) 5published at 14:56 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Somerset 335 v Lancashire 133 & 151-3 (68.2 overs)

    Dom BessImage source, Rex Features

Lancashire's title hopes fade further into the distance as off-spinner Dom Bess wins an lbw decision against Steven Croft. The Red Rose county still trail by 51 as Shiv Chanderpaul shuffles out to the middle to join Liam Livingstone.

  4. wicket

    WICKET Leach (c & b Parkinson) 28published at 14:54 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Leicestershire 404 v Worcestershire 487-9 (116.2 overs)

Whatever happens in the rest of his career, this match is likely to live long in the memory of young Leicestershire spinner Callum Parkinson, who takes a return catch to send Worcestershire's captain on his way - his seventh wicket of the innings. Joe Leach's dismissal brings to an end his 44th over of the innings - he's certainly earned a lie down later on.

  5. Cook's lbw appeal turned downpublished at 14:50 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 91-8 (37 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Sam Cook returns to the attack for Essex and Jeetan Patel greets him with a nice drive for four through the covers.

Cook responds with a full, inswinging delivery that hits the batsmen on the pad. The umpire shakes his head but that looked close.

Cook can't believe it hasn't been given. Hawkeye shows it would have clipped leg stump.

  6. wicket

WICKET Rafiq (lbw Batty) 0published at 14:50 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Surrey 592 v Yorkshire 343-7 (107 overs)

Two in four balls for Gareth Batty as Azeem Rafiq 'fails to trouble the scorers'. Steven Patterson is the next batsman out to the middle.

  7. Postpublished at 14:45 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 85-8 (36 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Today, tomorrow, next week? Who knows when Essex's title win will be confirmed.

That wicket of Haseeb Hameed opens the door a little for Somerset to earn a crucial win and in turn start the Essex celebrations.

Warwickshire's Jeetan Patel doesn't look like he fancies hanging around against the league leaders. He has a few swipes at Harmer, all pretty unsuccessfully.

    Warwickshire still trail by 83.

  8. wicket

WICKET Bresnan (c Clarke b Batty) 25published at 14:45 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Surrey 592 v Yorkshire 343-6 (106.3 overs)

Gareth Batty returns to the attack for Surrey and his third delivery accounts for Tim Bresnan, who edges to slip. Azeem Rafiq is the new batsman, with Andy Hodd still there on 31. Seven more runs needed for the fourth batting point.

  9. wicket

WICKET Hameed (c Abell b Leach) 62published at 14:42 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Somerset 335 v Lancashire 133 & 144-2 (63.4 overs)

Haseeb Hameed will be disappointed with that one. He attempts a cover drive as spinner Jack Leach floats one up outside off stump, but doesn't get his knee over the ball and is taken at cover.

A missed opportunity for an eye-catching score and Lancashire still need another 58 to avoid an innings defeat. That's Leach's seventh wicket of the match, by the way.

  10. Postpublished at 14:41 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 84-8 (34 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Henry Brookes joins Jeetan Patel in the middle for Warwickshire with his side's fate all-but sealed. The Bears are going to be relegated this season even if it may not be confirmed with this defeat.

It is wide smiles all round for the Essex fielders on the other hand. They're on the brink.

  11. wicket

WICKET Lamb (c Lawrence b Harmer) 35published at 14:36 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 82-8 (33.4 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

    Two needed for Essex!

This wicket may well see the Warwickshire innings end quickly as Matt Lamb, the only batsman to show any resistance today, falls.

He goes for a big heave over the leg side off Simon Harmer but only manages to sky the ball into the air and Dan Lawrence takes the catch at square leg.

Harmer has three wickets for 18 runs.

  12. Slow progress by Lancashirepublished at 14:33 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Somerset 335 v Lancashire 133 & 137-1 (61 overs)

Haseeb Hameed puts away a full toss from Dom Bess for four runs, but it's rare loose delivery from the young Somerset spinner. Lancashire are still 65 behind and remember, if Essex win, they must do liekwise to keep the title race alive. That's what is known as a 'long-shot'.

  13. dropped catch

Patel dropped by Porterpublished at 14:32 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 77-7 (32.3 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

    All sorts going on here.

Warwickshire's Patel drives the ball straight back at Jamie Porter and the Essex bowler spills a tough caught and bowled chance.

The fielder at mid on then runs around and throws the stumps down as Patel tries to steal a single. The on-field umpire calls for the third umpire but the New Zealander had made his ground.

  14. Postpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

Just how good is Jamie Porter?

Should he be on the plane to Australia for England?

He took the most recent wicket for Essex...

  15. Yorkshire look for extra pointpublished at 14:28 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Surrey 592 v Yorkshire 332-5 (102 overs)

Barring a sudden avalanche of runs, Yorkshire won't be taking maximum batting points from this game, but a fourth is there for the taking with eight overs left before the cut-off. Andy Hodd is 30 not out and Tim Bresnan is on 16, but spinner Freddie van den Bergh is now finding turn and occasional bounce.

  16. Essex three wickets from victorypublished at 14:27 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 68-7 (31 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

It is a shame it doesn't seem we're going to get a dramatic finish to the Division One title race as we did last season with Lancashire still digging in as they follow-on.

The title will only be confirmed for Essex if Lancashire fail to beat Somerset at Taunton. I don't think Essex will care how they seal the championship mind.

On the pitch at Edgbaston, Jeetan Patel throws the kitchen sink at a drive off Porter and only makes contact with fresh air.

  17. Harmer still looking dangerouspublished at 14:22 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 65-7 (29 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

Simon Harmer keeps getting the ball to spit from outside the right-handers' off stump.

He looks like he could take a wicket with every ball.

Just three more wickets needed for Essex and they'll be all-but confirmed as champions.

  18. Postpublished at 14:17 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

Nothing is going to stop Essex winning this match.

In the second over after the rain delay they took their sixth wicket and here it is.

  19. rain stops play

Worcestershire held up by rainpublished at 14:16 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Leicestershire 404 v Worcestershire 460-8 (112 overs)

They are off for rain at New Road, where promotion-chasing Worcestershire are 56 runs ahead, with Ben Cox 64 not out and Joe Leach on 10. Just the one wicket since lunch for the visitors, with Ben Raine having Ed Barnard caught behind.

  20. wicket

WICKET Barker (c Foster b Porter) 0published at 14:14 British Summer Time 14 September 2017

    Warwickshire 201 & 64-7 (28.1 overs) v Essex 369-9 dec

    Three more to win...

Jamie Porter has a third wicket of the innings as his delivery flicks the end off the edge of Keith Barker's bat.

Porter celebrates by doing the Mo-bot.

I don't think it is going to be very long until this one is over.
