  1. What about the champions?published at 13:08 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Essex 227 & 275-5 v Yorkshire 111

With so much make or break cricket going on elsewhere, the game at Chelmsford has passed us by a little bit.

What I can tell you is that Essex have moved to 275-5 against Yorkshire, a lead of 391 and they look set to go through the season unbeaten.

Captain Ryan ten Doeschate (53*) and Simon Harmer (37*) are at the crease.

  2. 'Notts destiny in own hands'published at 13:05 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Sussex 565 v Nottinghamshire 285-5 - lunch

    Adrian Harms
    Sports reporter, BBC Sussex

You couldn't write the script a for Chris Read, a six to complete a magnificent century in his final game for Nottinghamshire, and a thoroughly deserved standing ovation at Hove.

Coming to the crease on 65-5, Read - and Billy Root with a tremendous maiden Championship century - have wrestled control back for Notts with an unbroken double-century partnership.

The pair have added 177 runs this morning, although Read was dropped by substitute fielder Tom Haines when he was on 70, but apart that that it was a faultless counter attacking performance and his 26th first-class century.

Notts destiny is now in their own hands whatever happens to Northants, avoid defeat here and they are promoted back to Division One.

  3. 'Sangakkara still there'published at 13:00 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Lancashire 268 v Surrey 201-8 dec & 197-7 - lunch

Quite a morning. Ben Foakes and Mark Stoneman named in the Ashes squad. Stoneman alongside Rory Burns moves Surrey to an untroubled 154-0.

Liam Livingstone comes into the attack and immediately gets Stoneman for 98.

And in the blink of an eye Surrey find themselves 197-7 and Livingstone has a maiden five-wicket haul in first-class cricket.

Oh yes..and Kumar Sangakkara is still there, 23* in his final first-class innings.

  4. 'Pressure on Hampshire'published at 12:54 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Warwickshire 188 & 95-6 v Hampshire 116 - lunch

    Kevan James
    Sport Presenter, BBC Radio Solent

Hampshire have had a good morning in overcast conditions with those same conditions looking set for the rest of the day as ball continues to nip around.

For that reason, if the home side can get 200 ahead then that will heap even more pressure on Hampshire. Warwickshire's 72 run lead from the first innings is worth far more.

A draw of course would be enough for Hants to stay up but this game has moved too quickly for that to be an option at this stage.

The other hope is that the forecast rain in Taunton from lunchtime is of biblical proportions and Hampshire stay up by virtue of a draw their if the players never get back on.

Is that really going to happen? Hampshire will clutch at any available straws.

  5. 'Quite a morning for Somerset'published at 12:49 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 250-9 dec v Middlesex 142 & 21-1 - lunch

    Anthony Gibson
    BBC Somerset

It's been quite a morning for Somerset cricket.

First came confirmation that their big fast bowler Craig Overton - the pride of his native North Devon - had indeed been called up for England's Ashes squad.

Then a second century of the season for the ever-popular James Hildreth, and then the cherry on top, in the shape of the first of the ten Middlesex wickets they need to ensure Division One survival.

Rain is threatened sooner for this afternoon, but with the pitch still offering plenty of spin, tomorrow's three sessions ought to be more than sufficient for Messrs Leach, Bess and Van der Merwe to finish the job.

A brilliant unbeaten 220-run sixth-wicket partnership between Chris Read (114 not out) and Billy Root (103 not out) has taken Nottinghamshire to the cusp of promotion.

    Warwickshire 188 & 95-6 v Hampshire 116

    Kyle Abbott strikes!

The South African seamer bowls Alex Thomson and that is lunch.

Warwickshire lead by 167 runs and with rain predicted at Taunton, Hampshire will be looking to wrap up the hosts' tail quickly at Edgbaston and chase a sub-200 total and escape relegation.

  10. Lunch at Tauntonpublished at 12:39 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 250-9 dec v Middlesex 142 & 21-1

WICKET Evans (lbw b Keogh) 29published at 12:34 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Leicestershire 128 & 83-3 v Northants 202

Northants are still fighting in the promotion race.

Sam Evans goes lbw to the spin of Rob Keogh.

They need to win to stand a chance of going up - but Notts' fine fightback at Hove with the bat means hope is fading.

  12. Sanga being Sangapublished at 12:32 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Lancashire 268 v Surrey 201-8 dec & 195-6

Has anyone ever made the game look so easy?

  13. wicket

    WICKET D'Oliveira (lbw b Onions) 4published at 12:29 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Worcestershire 335 & 10-1 v Durham 208

Graham Onions gets another wicket in his final match for Durham.

    Brett D'Oliveira is pinned lbw.

There isn't too much riding on this match now that Worcestershire have been promoted, but they'll want to do it as champions.

  14. wicket

    WICKET Robson (c C Overton b Leach) 8published at 12:26 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    What a moment.

Chris Read reaches his century in his final Championship match by hooking Stuart Whittingham for a big six.

It has been a brilliant innings, with his century coming off 109 balls and including 15 fours and that six.

  16. Postpublished at 12:20

    Somerset 236 & 250-9 dec v Middlesex 142 & 15-0

    Jack LeachImage source, Rex Features

It's been a steady start from Sam Robson and Nick Compton for Middlesex, although Somerset skipper Tom Abell did shell a catch.

As has been the norm in this game, a spinner is opening the bowling - Jack Leach is finding plenty of spin so far.

Big Craig Overton is steaming in at the other end.

But I'm afraid to say the weather is closing in at Taunton.

    Lancashire 268 v Surrey 201-8 dec & 174-6

Erm - can you stop losing wickets please?

Sam Curran is bowled first ball by Stephen Parry and Surrey are six down.

Kumar Sangakkara is watching is all from the other end.

Rikki Clarke will need to stick around with him for a bit if we are going to see a Kumar masterclass in his final knock.

  20. Middlesex begin pursuit of 345published at 12:09 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

    Somerset 236 & 250-9 dec v Middlesex 142 & 4-0

Nick Compton and Sam Robson have begun this mammoth task for Middlesex.

With Hampshire fighting back at Edgbaston, only a draw or win may be enough to keep the 2016 county champions in Division One.
