    Leicestershire 128 v Northants 202-8

There's the first batting bonus point for Northants as they go past 200.

Josh Cobb and Ben Sanderson are at the crease with the lead standing at 74.

It's a game Northants must win to stand any chance of promotion.

But they'll be keeping a close eye on proceedings at Hove, where main promotion rivals Notts are in trouble.

    Somerset 236 & 159-3 v Middlesex 142

James Hildreth and Somerset captain Tom Abell make their way to the middle.

Hildreth needs 18 runs for one of the most important hundreds he will have ever scored.

Middlesex need a miracle to escape from this match with anything.

The promotion picture also took some shape yesterday.

    Here's what needs to happen...

    • Worcestershire promoted if they take four more Durham wickets
    • Notts need a maximum of 12 points for promotion - but only if Northants take 24
    • Northants must beat Leicestershire to stay in the promotion hunt

With Northants at 199-8 against Leicestershire, it looks like they'll only take one batting bonus point and Notts will therefore need to escape their match at Sussex with a draw to stay up.

  9. The relegation permutationspublished at 10:19 British Summer Time 27 September 2017

Now that the three sides facing relegation know how many bonus points they've got - the situation becomes a little clearer.

    • Somerset stay up if they beat Middlesex
    • A Middlesex win or draw sends Somerset down
    • Hants would also be safe with a Middlesex win or draw
    • Hants relegated if they lose and Somerset win
    • A Hampshire draw coupled with a Somerset victory sends Middlesex down

I think that just about covers it.

Hampshire were left in the mire against already-relegated Warwickshire as they slumped to 116 all out.

That came after they had bowled out the Bears for 188.

Middlesex's survival hopes could rest on the result in Birmingham.

Let's take a closer look at the relegation picture...

    County Championship finale

This picture pretty much sums up yesterday for Middlesex.

A batting collapse on a turning pitch, coupled with a brilliant stand from two Somerset batsmen saw their survival chances slipping away from them.

But that was before the bowlers ran riot at Edgbaston...
