Moeen st Paine b Lyon 40 (Eng 155-6)

Tim Paine was the most confident man in the ground that Moeen Ali was out there and his certainty is finally ratified by the third umpire.

Moeen got in a huge stride and his trailing foot dragged onto the line, with no clear indication any part of the boot was back inside the crease.

He's overstretched looking to nullify the spin but it was a ripper from Lyon and tremendous keeping from Paine.

Oooh. It's really tight. One angle looks like he's gone, another looks like he's got a bit behind the line.

    Huge call.

Moeen's in real trouble here. His foot is on the line and the line belongs to the umpire.

Lyon fizzes one past Moeen's outside edge, Tim Paine grabs it and whips off the bails.

We're going to have a look...

Josh Hazlewood back on. He shaves his legs, you know. Something to do with avoiding pain when he removes surgical tape.

    Moeen 40, Bairstow 23

Four overs and out for Cummins, who's speed in that last over may have been because he knew his spell was coming to an end. Hazlewood the man to replace him.

Bit of shape coming back in, a hint the pitch may be doing a bit or maybe even a touch of reverse swing, but Bairstow is equal to it, playing straight.

And then he nearly undoes his good work, having a waft to a wide one outside off. No need to play that, Jonny. Hazlewood tries to give him a stare but Bairstow ignores him.

That won't improve Hazlewood's mood, Bairstow guiding it away to scramble two. Good running.

This field is sending me the message that Australia have got a little bit of fear. I'm surprised they haven't gone for that aggressive option that we saw in the first innings and last night.

Lyon's not done yet. Another absolute pearler that rips past the outside edge of Moeen's bat. Terrific turn and bounce on that. But crucially no edge.

The Aussie off-spinner, who's had his sunglasses on and off while bowling since lunch, drops a tad short and Moeen once again looks to score, picking up one.

Bairstow then does the same before Moeen defends the last.

Moeen on 40, he averages 41 against Australia - his highest average against any nation except Sri Lanka.

Lyon is such an important cog in this Australia attack. He holds one end and the other bowlers rotate from the other. But if you can knock him out of the attack, that creates problems for Steve Smith.

    Moeen 39, Bairstow 20

No bat sponsor, no problem. Bairstow ducks under a bumper before clipping round the corner for one and that's 150 up for England.

Still under pressure but hope while these two continue to play like this.

Moeen rotates the strike again with a clip through square leg before Bairstow defends the last two.

Cummins up at 89mph on day four. What red zone?

Moeen Ali has hit six boundaries, five of them off Nathan Lyon. Now Bairstow is on the act. It looks a different game when England get after the spinner.

Moeen dances back and tries to cut Lyon away but can only find the fielder. Good technique to the off-spinner though, trying to mess with his lengths.

The all-rounder then clips into leg for one before Bairstow rocks back to defend.

And there he goes! Bairstow emulating Moeen to charge Lyon and batter him over mid-wicket into the stands.

A single off the last. Expert cricket from Bairstow. England's top order should be taking notes on how this pair have played Lyon.

    Moeen 37, Bairstow 12

Smith spreads the field as Moeen prepares to face Cummins - time for some short stuff? Not yet at least as Moeen can't beat the infield with a drive before clipping nicely off his pads for one.

Bairstow continues to defend well on the back foot before guiding it off the face to rotate the strike.

Moeen now - and he takes on the pull, getting on top of it well to guide it down to fine leg for a single.

Lyon drops slightly short and Moeen rocks back, looking to clatter him through the covers but can only find the fielder. Still, that's a much better approach to Lyon than Stoneman and Malan managed.

Moeen judges the length well again to flick into leg for a single. Lyon still round the wicket to the right-handed Bairstow - a dot to start.

A rare wide and loose one follows and Bairstow gets a huge stride in to slash it away, the ball just beating Cummins' despairing dive to the fence.

Good response from Lyon but good defence from Bairstow to match.
